We’ve invested a lot in our farm to be a good Neighbor.

We are determined to be as environmentally friendly as we can afford.

Each pig produces an average of 1.2 gallons of waste per day and 4.1 standard cubic feet of biogas methane each day.

Our responsibility starts with the hog waste. We produce a lot of it!

slide-5
SLIDE 5

Where does all that waste and gas go?

The waste was used as fertilizer and the biogas was released into the atmosphere.

lagoon lagoon

Farm pond

Back in 2000, it was drained into these open lagoon pits.

So we installed lagoon covers in 2008.

But we thought covered lagoons were better.

We saw open lagoons as

  • ne way to handle waste.

Covered lagoons had a multitude of benefits.

Odor Reduction

(Good PR)

Rainwater Exclusion

(Save Additional Pumping Cost)

Sequester CO2 and CH4

(Greenhouse Gases)

Carbon Credits

(Carbon Market Has a Future)

Increases Fertilizer Pan

(2.8% To 11% N Avg. 7.5)

Lowers Your Ammonia Emissions

The biggest benefit of all.

Biogas trapped under lagoon digester cover was now ready to be used as

FUEL

So the fuel was there, and we harnessed it.
