History of Improvements

  • Majority of improvements come from in herd
  • Purchased 3 high indexing heifers

– Flushed multiple times – These 3 as 2 year olds averaged +1.86kg fat/day

  • Purchased embryos from Progenesis
  • 25 flushes completed on farm in 2016

Next Step of Improvements

  • Recently purchased this calf through Semex

– TPI: 2779

slide-18
SLIDE 18

Current Strengthening

  • 5 donors at Boviteq for IVF

– Ranging from 2650 – 2800 TPI

  • Interest from Semex and Select Sires for bull contract

– Next group of three month old calves at 2750 TPI will be sent when of age

  • Continuing with flushing 2-3 donors a month

with Greenbelt Veterinary

Take Home Thoughts

We at Dicklands feel that genomic testing has significantly helped us strengthen our herd by allowing us to strategically plan breeding and embryo transfers. This allows us to excel at a faster rate than Canadian average, achieve our goals, and profit from elite animals.
