EXISTING LANDSCAPE CHARACTER
swathes of mown grass
- pen view lines
large islands of indigenous vegetation on organic mulch bed
SLIDE 4
Filtered views through- limited mid storey Mid storey to margins Paths bleed into landscape- no edging
SLIDE 5
Limited mid and understorey allows fi ltered views through to opposite bank Fallen tree trunks retained for habitat
SLIDE 6
Informal edges and borders mid storey more predominant closer to creek
- ngoing planting and
management
SLIDE 7
Steep slope with heavy weed coverage scattered overstorey on slope Poor quality soils with old building rubble and concrete rubbish close to surface
SLIDE 8
EXISTING LANDSCAPE CHARACTER SUMMARY
- Open swathes of mown grass provide informal access and help passive
surveillance
- limited mid storey allow views through the vegetation
- Informal park like character, with no formal borders or edges to paths and
planting
- Greater density of mid and understorey nearer the creek
- Existing vegetation and all new plantings are locally indigenous
- Felled branches and trunks kept on site for habitat
- Organic mulch spread throughout planting islands
- Any proposed re-vegetation works to follow the guidelines above

DESIGN INTENT & ASSUMPTIONS
- The design intent for the new revegetation works is to match with the current
informal bushland landscape character of the creek and park.
- This character is typifi
ed by large areas of mulch with scattered overstorey
- f Acacia and Eucalypt species and scattered pockets of understorey of Hop
Goodenia, Lomandra, Cassinia and Dianella planting.
- These observed species have been topped up with other species from
DEPI’s online Ecological Vegetation Classes (EVC) benchmark maps.
- The following bioregions were identifi
ed as relevant to this section of Gardiners Creek and were referenced to select species: EVC 127 - Valley Heath Forest EVC 83 - Swampy Riparian Woodland EVC 47 - Valley Grassy Forest
SLIDE 11
- Although the species listed in the EVC’s have been used, the percentage
cover of each vegetation type (described by the EVC) has been altered to ensure the current open character of the park is maintained.
- All new areas of vegetation are above the Gardiner Creek top of bank and
- nly a small portion is within the the 1:100 year fl
- od overlay. Therefore
the species have been selected are suitable for terrestrial planting with only
- ccasional fl
- oding rather than aquatic species.
- Species selected for planted nearer the creek were sourced from recent
work completed with Melbourne Water at Box Hill Golf Club along Gardiners Creek - which is just upstream from this site

PLANTING SCHEDULE
Schedule 1: Proposed areas of scattered indigenous understorey on mulch beds Schedule 2: Proposed areas of indigenous planting close to top of creek bank Schedule 3: Proposed areas of indigenous planting in isolated jute matt squares
- n steep slope
Schedule 4: Scattered overstorey planted to compliment planting in Schedule 1

PROGRESS & NEXT STEPS
- Council Offi
cers have provided in-principle agreement on the scale of the
- verall scope of the Proposed Revegetation Plan
- Take on board suggestions and changes from today’s information and
feedback session
- Preference would be to start planting soon to take advantage of the
