BPM ROUND TABLE

The European BPM Round Table is a federation of 21 national BPM round tables aiming to transfer cutting-edge research into new products and ser- vices in the area of Business Process Management (BPM). During the spe- cial meeting of the European BPM Round Table on November 5th 2012, internationally well-known researchers, together with representatives of the companies they cooperate with, pre- sented their joint work. The presenta- tions reported on experiences in suc- cessfully transferring state-of-the-art BPM research results into practical ap-

• plications. Moreover, important chal-

lenges that urgently need to be ad- dressed by the BPM community were discussed.

He showed the im- pact BPM research can have on the car industry where processes tend to be complex and highly dynamic. It was a nice example showing the challenges related to “BPM-in-the-large”.

However, this requires support from European decision makers (European Union, lo- cal governments, and venture capital funds). In this spirit, the European BPM Round Table aims to increase the visi- bility of BPM research and its econom- ic potential. There- fore, EIT ICT Labs is supporting the consolidation of successful national BPM round tables into a single Eu- ropean BPM round table where expe- riences can be exchanged, knowledge can be transferred, and new initiatives can be initiated at the European level. Europe is clearly leading in BPM re- search as can be seen at the main conferences in the field and the enor- mous impact of the research in terms
