Created in 1849, the North Carolina Medical Society is the oldest professional

  • rganization in the state. Originally founded by a handful of physicians with the

mission to protect the profession of medicine and the patients of North Carolina and to share innovative breakthroughs in health care, the NCMS continues to pursue those same goals with a membership that now includes thousands of physicians, PAs and students. Today our priorities include:

Leadership development to educate and empower the next generation of health

care decision makers;

Education on emerging health care trends; Advocacy for the profession of medicine at the state and national levels; Discovery of new ways to address the changing environment of medicine,

including a focus on exploring innovative systems of care and tackling such pressing issues as physician burnout and the opioid epidemic.
