I remember our young people singing a Hillsongs Song entitled “One Way Jesus” the chorus goes One way Jesus, You’re the only one that I could live for! It then goes on to declare I lay my life down at your feet I turn to you and you are always there Your grace abounds so deeply in me You will never ever change, yesterday today the same We live by faith and not by sight In the reading that we heard we are told that our attitude should be the same as Christ Jesus: Made himself nothing Took the nature of a servant Humbled himself Obedient Do we take on these attitudes? In Matthew Chapter 5 we hear that Jesus taught the crowd with a series of statements starting with Blessed – these have become known as the Be- attitudes. > Not so much about what we do > It is about who we are > Did the Philippian Church have an Attitude problem? (You should look not to your own interests but to the interests of others) > Maybe they had an Altitude problem? – Thinking more highly of themselves! (I don’t need God or anyone else!) > Maybe they had an Aptitude Problem? – Thinking they can get along without God? (Got all I need thanks!) Slide Four Jesus gives us a better way to live: >Being Generous >Forgiving others, not carrying bitterness >Being Compassionate > Being a Peace maker > Listening to the wisdom of others > Being honest about yourself This better way is not weird or strange but it is simply acknowledging that we choose to try and follow Jesus…. WWJD bands to senior school and college youth. Invite congregation to be praying for them as they come and collect their bands.
