School Reopening

  • Our Superintendent, Mr. Leaman, has indicated

that all WPUSD schools will remain in a 100% distance learning model through October 30th unless the community conditions change drastically.

  • While we hope that the conditions shift so that

we can reopen school, that is a decision made by our school district leadership and not our site.

Ways for Parents to Support!

Before Class During Class After Class

Help your child wake up, eat breakfast, get dressed, use the restroom and get logged in on time You should not need to stay next to your child during the entire class. Be close in case technical help is needed, but please do not hover Support your child’s independent work time by guiding them to follow the schedule provided and his/her teacher’s schedule Help your child build the habit of having all materials ready The camera and microphone should be ON during our meetings; however students will be muting and unmuting their microphone as needed; please monitor your home for excessive noise and inappropriate items Please email your child’s teacher if you have any issues, feedback or

  • communication. We are all learning

together, but communication is key! You may need to help your child log in to class and navigate Google Classroom, Meets, etc… for the first several days Please be sure your child is following our BEEP Online Expectations so he/she can be successful Review and monitor your child’s work completion and due dates. Please do NOT do your child’s work for them! Please fully charge your child’s device every night and be sure student’s headphones are ready to wear Your teacher will meet with small groups weekly; be sure you know when your child should be in a small group Have your child show you around their Google Classroom regularly and check your email regularly for communication from your teacher or FSS.

slide-15
SLIDE 15

Daily Engagement is Key!

  • Your child can expect daily whole group interaction

with your teacher, small group meetings, and interaction with peers

  • Students will participate in live and independent

activities daily

  • Students will receive feedback on their work and will

receive a report card in November

slide-16
SLIDE 16

What if the internet crashes or a system goes down during the school day?

  • Don’t panic! Give your teacher a few minutes to

communicate with you via email. If you don’t hear from your teacher, send him/her an email!

  • Students can participate in silent reading or on

independent work tasks until the situation

  • resolves. As long as we all keep working on school

activities, there is no need to make up the minutes lost with an internet issue!

Distance Learning Norms for WPUSD

Video Conferencing Norms

When we connect on Google Meet, it is our virtual classroom. Behavior expectations are really no different than what is expected in our in-person classroom. Find a Quiet Spot - Log into your Google Meet session from a distraction-free, quiet environment. Be On Time - Be on time for your Google Meet session. If you need help, ask an adult or an older sibling to log you in. Be Presentable - Get ready for school online just like you’d get ready for school in-person! Brush your hair and teeth, and wear school-appropriate clothes. Have Materials Ready - Gather any materials/supplies you need ahead of time and put them in your Quiet Spot. Make sure your device is charged if it needs to be unplugged. Video - We want to see your smile, so we’d prefer your video to be on. (If it’s off, we might reach out after class to check on you and make sure everything is ok.) Mute - Please keep your audio on mute until it’s your turn to speak. This will help to limit background noise. Wait Your Turn - If you would like to speak or answer a question, click on the “Raise Hand” option at the top-left part of the screen. Then unmute yourself after you are called on. Chat - If your class is using the chat box, remember that everyone can see it and your teacher keeps a copy of what is said. Be Respectful - Act like you would in your class at school. If you wouldn’t do it in class at school, don’t do it on the call. Be Mindful - keep your device and body still during a Google Meet

slide-27
SLIDE 27

WPUSD Progressive Discipline for Distance Learning

1. General reminder of the expectation to the whole class. 2. Individual reminder to the student of the expectation through verbal message or chat; families, remember that the chat is public for all participants to see. 3. Ask student to take a quick break from class by muting and turning off student video. Student will be asked to re-engage with class and turn video back on via the chat after a few minutes have passed. 4. Remove student from session and call parent/guardian to discuss behavior. 5. If same behavior continues in future sessions, refer student to administrator.
