GATE Program

  • The Elementary GATE Academy is a self-contained program
  • n our FSS campus for qualifying GATE-High Achieving

3rd-5th students and their families from around the district.

  • The program offers enrichments, acceleration and

advancements to the standard grade-level curriculum.

  • Mrs. Gonzales (3rd), Mrs. Pellegrino (4th), & Mrs. Moya

(5th) have been trained in GATE strategies and are GATE certified.

  • Children in the GATE Academy participate with other

students at First Street School in Music and Science classes and in grade-level field trips and other special programs.

Absences

FACTS

  • Direct link between attendance & success in school
  • We lose $30 a day per absent student
  • The only excused absences are for child illness, medical

appointments, or death in the immediate family; all others considered unexcused (includes tardies of more than 30 minutes except for medical reasons)

  • 3 or more unexcused absences/tardies is considered truant
  • Letters go home after the 3rd, 4th, and 5th unexcused absence
  • After the 6th unexcused absence, a Notification of Habitual

Truancy letter goes home and a SARB meeting will be scheduled with the parents/guardians and student

  • Travel Study: Must be completed two weeks ahead of time

and be for a minimum of 5 days.
