Attendance - 1

Additional Persistent Absence Report Reports | Attendance | Whole Group Pupil (or Student) Reports

  • The new Persistent Absence Report – Student Threshold report enables

schools to understand persistent absence, so that their figures can be compared with national figures and benchmarks.

  • The report provides a list of pupil/students who are persistently absent

(based on a chosen percentage, e.g. 10%), as well as overall figures about the number of pupil/students absent in school, and that figure as a percentage of the school population, in line with current DfE guidance.

7

slide-8
SLIDE 8

Attendance - 2

  • The calculations that the DfE use to analyse persistent absence have

changed and this report reflects those calculations. Persistent absence is now based on a possible number of sessions for each pupil/student, rather than being based on a standardised number of sessions within school.

  • This helps to identify pupil/students who are not due in school full-time,

such as dual registered pupil/student. The original report is still available, to enable schools to compare their figures from previous years with national calculations.

  • These changes in calculation do not affect school report, which will remain

as it has been

Childcare Information Routines | Statutory Return | School Census Focus | School | School Details

  • One record for each of the four childcare types is required by the DfE,

even if that childcare type is not provided. Therefore, the way in which childcare is recorded has been updated.

  • The Childcare panel now displays a separate row for each of the four

childcare types.

  • The Update Childcare Details dialog now includes the following changes:

slide-19
SLIDE 19

Please note that the information recorded in School Details for School Census Spring 2016 is incompatible with the requirement for School Census Spring 2017, so the details default to blank for all schools. Therefore, all schools must enter the information ready for School Census Spring 2017. New iOS SIMS Teacher Dinner Money

  • What’s in the latest update?
  • This latest release of the iOS SIMS Teacher app provides integration with

SIMS Dinner Money to allow the easy recording of school meals through the app.

  • Where schools are using SIMS Dinner Money, we’ve made the whole

process of taking the normal morning attendance register and the dinner register even easier by combining them within the SIMS Teacher app.

  • This new integration allows school staff using the app to easily swipe

between the Attendance and the Dinner Register to make taking the register and recording meal choices simple, and ensures the kitchen has all the information it needs for lunchtime every day.

35

slide-36
SLIDE 36

New iOS SIMS Teacher Dinner Money

  • The Dinner Money registers are automatically integrated with attendance,

so where pupil meal patterns are setup in SIMS, their selected meal option is automatically shown and selected in the dinner register view.

  • Meal types are automatically displayed from the school’s SIMS system

within the app and can be selected for ad-hoc choices or where pupils wish to change their default meal choice.

  • Real-time updates to SIMS of your attendance and dinner register choices.
  • Available in online and offline mode enabling greater flexibility for you to

view and update the attendance and dinner register wherever you are.

SLIDE 37

SIMS Interventions

37

slide-38
SLIDE 38

What are interventions? How do they affect schools?

  • Interventions are anything that schools are doing above and beyond the

national curriculum to help improve outcomes for their students.

  • Examples could be to improve grades, attendance, behaviour or general

wellbeing.

38

slide-39
SLIDE 39

The attainment gap

  • Over 1.4 million (21%) children aged 4-15 are eligible for free school meals

in this country. They will start primary school behind their better-off classmates -and this attainment gap will increase throughout their schooling.

  • The latest figures show just 37% of disadvantaged children achieved 5

good GCSEs, including English and Maths, compared to 63% of all other

  • pupils. Children from poorer backgrounds do worse on average than their

wealthier classmates whichever type of school they are in.

  • The attainment gap between rich and poor pupils is particularly stark

compared with other OECD countries.

  • Young people with poor educational attainment are much more likely to

end up not in education, employment or training (NEET).(Education Endowment Fund 2016)

39

slide-40
SLIDE 40

What is SIMS Interventions?

  • Currently in development
  • Due in Spring 2017
  • Pilot in Autumn 2016

40
