Development of Mark Rothko Art Centre as unique semi‐season product on
Latvia scale in the Daugavpils Fortress is an attempt to create yet novel tourism product in Latgale region and in whole Latvian tourism market.
Reconstruction of the Arsenal building of the national heritage monument
Daugavpils Fortress promotes the development of the whole fortress.

Obstacles of project starting and running
Realization
- f
the project requires substantial funding (municipality’s budget of 2009 has been decreased), but return of Mark Rothko Art Centre would be long‐term.
Accessibility – far from capital city Riga (the importance of
Daugavpils airport development). Development of high quality public transport network.
Large and visually unattractive territory; currently nothing to see
there.
