• The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) consists of 10

countries with more than 600 million people.

• ASEAN is also a region that is prone to disasters in which every year,
• n average, the ASEAN region experiences losses related to natural

disasters estimated at US$ 4.4 billion*

• To reduce disaster losses in ASEAN region and jointly respond to

disaster emergencies ASEAN Foreign Ministers signed ASEAN Agreement on Disaster Management Emergency Response (AADMER)

• n July 2005
• ASEAN leaders in the several ASEAN summits reiterated that

AADMER is the common platform for disaster management in ASEAN
