Our industry is expected to grow by 2.5% every year for the next five years. This will create 232,000 new jobs across the UK. 390,000 workers left the industry in 2008. 400,000 people to retire in next five years. Skills shortages equal to pre-recession highs. A £466 billion government plan for the UKs infrastructure £15 Billion plan for roads £2.3 billion plan for flood defences More investment in housing, rail and energy Innovation is changing the face of the industry. Need to recruit and develop people with new types of skills.
Inspectorates state that careers guidance in schools is not working, following significant cuts in a three year period to career services. 22% of all careers advisors in the UK believe a career in construction is unattractive. 34.6% of young people view construction and the built environment as a favourable career choice Construction careers information is multiple, complex and confusing Sector impact is lost through inconsistency of approach and asks of educators
