He played on sports teams since he was 5 years old. He had at least 25 sports physicals No one ever really checked his heart * No family history No symptoms First warning sign was SCD

In 2000, Coach Bill Snyder encouraged me to do Screenings Our first event was in Oct. 2001 at Kansas State University

What we are finding

Over 11,250 screened, with

  • ver 1,426 abnormal results

237 possible HCM (10 times more than 1 in 500) Electrical issues Structural problems Can be seen in our ABF “By the Numbers”

Consistent 12% abnormal rate (same as Italy) 5 - 8% are life threatening

90 AEDs have been donated to community & schools – 60 in AZ Our first AED save was Jan. 2014; 67 y/o Soccer official ABF Community Screening Training program has teams

50 active teams hosting across the USA Over 400,000 youth screened By end 2016 we will amass

PUSD AED Project 2014 - 2015

In early 2013 ABF approached Peoria – PUSD; due to the AED need for the elementary schools Screen at their high schools and raise funds for AEDs in elementary Also provide CPR/AED certification training for 10%

Started in Feb. 2014 at Liberty High School & by April 2015 we finished!

Of the (5) high school screens 861 served We found 186 problems – 22% abnormality rate 38 were life threatening issues or 38 lives saved! Over $73,000 raised! 26 AEDs purchased 310 staff certified

Partnered with 4th & 5th largest school districts in AZ Deer Valley and Dysart!

Plan to Screen at all 10 of their high schools Raise funds for approx. 60 AEDs for their elementary schools CPR/AED Certified training for 10% of the staff in each school – up to 600 people
