Round I Meeting: Outcomes and implications

Participants

Organization

APHL and DWT ASTHO CDC, HHS CTO, HHS CMS, HHS CDC Foundation (and special advisors) CSTE NACCHO TFGH and Kahuina State DPH staff: ID, MU, ND and WA

Outcomes

  • The Apple|Google BLE exposure notification approach may help contact tracing.
  • There are significant epidemiological, resource and workflow questions.
  • Privacy concerns exist that need to be addressed through public education and effective

communications. Proximity notification has promise, and caution is appropriate.

  • In a short term, an important next step is to conduct studies to carefully monitor and

evaluate the API in a subset of early-adopter states.

  • Thorough evaluation of implementations should help make informed decisions regarding

implementations.

  • Evaluation areas include epidemiology, infrastructure, application, workflow integration

and public communication Pilots are the best path forward.

  • Topics include (1) addressing communication and public messaging; (2) public engagement;

(3) buy-in by elected officials (i.e., governor/mayor/city council); (4) avoiding politicization; (5) value projection and measurement; (6) key infrastructure needs (e.g., Diagnostic Key Server). Round I group is well-suited to develop guidance for states. 6/16/2020 7
