  11. Secretary’s Report – Tom Howard 24 th September 2020 | 11 Smarter. Simpler. Better.

  12. Secretary’s Report • Membership of the region currently stands at 844, which is a little above last year’s AGM report of 841. Of this number, 56% of the membership of the region are full members, 27% are students, 10% are Fellows and the rest split between Associates, Graduates and Apprentices. • The uptake of apprentice membership is still quite low with 37 apprentices in the region (there were 35 reported at the last AGM). When compared to students (225) this shows that there is a challenge to address in promoting the Institution to the non-traditional education sector. | 12 Smarter. Simpler. Better.

  13. • The events programme for this year has been truncated as a result of COVID-19, after which events have been managed centrally by CIHT. It has still been the intent to hold events across the regions including potential events in Hull and Northallerton. Events have been held including the Autumn Seminar regarding Infrastructure Investment in Leeds which was sold out, and a tour of the Highways England North East Regional Control Centre which was well attended and received positive feedback. • The Committee welcomes suggestions and offers from the membership on future events, a focus for next year to engage members. • The past year has seen the continuation of a series of breakfast seminars, some jointly advertised with CECA, kindly hosted by Shulmans LLP (now Knights plc) covering topics on contractual issues appealing to different sections of the industry. These continue to be well attended and is something that the committee is looking to build upon. • A national CIHT event was championed by the region on Covid and contract issues | 13 Smarter.
