VALUE WHAT DOES IT MEAN? HOW IS IT DEMONSTRATED? Curiosity

Let the wise hear and increase in learning, and the one who understands obtain guidance Proverbs 1:5

Curiosity is the desire to know or learn something. Joy is experienced through the process of learning and acquiring new knowledge. I demonstrate curiosity when I  am enthusiastic to gain new knowledge  take responsibility for my own learning  am willing to explore new ideas independently Excellence

And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:17

Excellence is to have an attitude that of ‘the best is yet to be’ in all endeavours. It speaks of having resilience and diligence in the face of challenges. I demonstrate excellence when I  participate in all activities  take pride all my work, regardless of my personal ability or talent  consistently put my best effort in. Love

Be devoted to one another in love. Honour

  • ne another above yourselves.

Romans 12:10

Love is caring and showing compassion to those around us. It also speaks of forgiveness. I demonstrate Love when I care for  myself 

  • thers

 the community Integrity

Whoever walks in integrity will be delivered, but he who is crooked in his ways will suddenly fall. Proverbs 10:9

Integrity is the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles (moral courage?) in all situations and under all circumstances. I demonstrate Integrity when I consistently  speak the truth  do what is right  keep my word Loyalty

For the LORD is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations Psalm 100:5

Loyalty speaks of a rootedness to family, school, and

  • nation. It is more than mere words. True loyalty

results in action. I demonstrate Loyalty when I support  my classmates  my schoolmates  my nation Collaboration

In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven Matthew 5:16

Collaboration is working with others in order to make a positive difference in the lives of others. Love and loyalty is the motivation to make this positive difference. I demonstrate Collaboration when I contribute to  the class  the school community  my nation

PSLE – Placement Examination

  • Need to reflect the relative achievement

level of students with their peers.

  • Places students into different courses

according to their academic ability.

  • Enables posting to Secondary Schools

by merit and as far as possible into a school of their choice.

slide-13
SLIDE 13

What is the T-Score?

  • It gives the relative standing of

student’s performance as compared to the performance of all the other level students in that subject.

  • PSLE Aggregate Score is a sum of

the T-scores and NOT raw scores of the 4 subjects.

slide-14
SLIDE 14

Why not use Raw Scores?

  • Different subjects have different levels of

difficulty.

  • The raw score obtained shows how good the

student is in that subject, not how good he is compared to his peers.

  • Scoring the same mark, say 85%, in EL and

MTL could indicate very different capability of the learner in the respective subjects

slide-15
SLIDE 15

EL Ave = 60 MTL Ave = 80

85% John scores 85% in EL & MTL

Example

His performance in MT is very close to that of his peers. He did much better in EL as compared to

 Converts average mark of each subject to a common

 Converts the raw score to T-score by considering the

extent to which they differ from the average and the size of spread of the marks around the average

  • Introduced by the Ministry of Education in

2004.

  • An admission exercise to allow participating

secondary schools to select some P6 students for admission to Secondary One.

  • The selection will be based on their

achievements and talents BEFORE the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) results are released.

NOT be allowed to participate in the S1 Posting Exercise, no matter how well the student has performed at PSLE.

slide-29
SLIDE 29

EVERYDAY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Research shows that children who help out with

home duties or chores actually do better in school and they are more empathetic and caring.

  • In fact, children who participate in everyday

responsibilities perceive themselves more positively, have a stronger sense of self-worth and are less stressed.

  • These children also feel good that they are

contributing; they feel wanted, needed and bonded to the family. They see that they have an important role to play in the family and the daily responsibilities help to make caring and helpfulness second nature to them.

WHAT KIND OF BOY IS THE ACS BOY?

“The ACS boy was an energetic, spry and unconventional

  • creature. A sense of humour and mischief is not far from

his fertile mind … Perhaps a certain kind of swagger and

  • ver self-confidence … and creativity … The light-

heartedness, the sense of fun and humour. Mix this with a serious determination to excel in the classroom and in the

  • sportsfield. Mix this further with a sense of duty and a

sense of what is morally right and Godly. You have a very powerful mixture.” Dr Tay Eng Soon 1 March 1988
