  3. The vision will provide the foundations for far reaching decisions about the future.  It will provide a framework for the development of council and partners’ policies, strategies and plans

The vision was developed through extensive qualitative and quantitative research and consultation: • Desk research • Focus groups and workshops with residents and young people, specialist interest groups, council staff, members, BASP and other key stakeholders • Open consultation • Telephone sample survey providing statistically valid evidence In total, that’s 1,500 people engaged and over 1,400 hours of conversations

Homes and housing Our communities will live in quality and sustainable homes  Mix of good quality and affordable housing types and tenures preferably on brownfield sites in and around Basingstoke  Housing will meet the different household types and be built to high sustainable standards  Infrastructure such as roads, broadband, schools will be built before or alongside housing developments

Healthy, safe and inclusive communities Our residents will live together well with access to a range of outstanding health, leisure, sport and community facilities  Strengthened health and social care services and local health centres that support residents to be and live well  An inclusive, cohesive and friendly place for everyone  Continue to have a major hospital facility  The maintenance of community safety will continue to be a priority  The needs of a growing ageing population will be balanced with the creation of opportunities for young people and families

Environment Our borough will remain green and our natural diversity will be nurtured and respected  Nature is important – it will be protected, preserved and accessible  The countryside will be complemented by quality parks and open spaces in developed areas  There will be greater understanding and appreciation of nature and opportunities for learning and involvement of communities

Sustainability Protecting the environment will be a top priority  A more sustainable and resource efficient borough  Targets will be set for air and water quality and buildings will have exemplary sustainable standards  Renewable energy will be prevalent and we will be energy self- sufficient and re-use all our waste

  11. Transport Our transport infrastructure will provide a range of options to travel around the borough  Moving around easily by car or by efficient and rapid public transport throughout the borough will be a key feature  A safe network of walking and cycling routes will provide a healthy alternative to vehicular transport  New technologies such as electric, hybrid and autonomous vehicle use will be encouraged

Education Our communities will have access to a range of local learning options  Well planned provision of an adaptable and resilient education system will be delivered from birth to adulthood  The borough’s secondary schools will be the first choice for local young people to improve their attainment, achievement and wellbeing  Higher education linking students and employers will be introduced

Economy and entrepreneurship Our borough will be a place where residents can learn, work and build a successful career  Future-proof education and training will give residents the chance to access a range of jobs across all sectors  Well planned existing and new business areas will attract new businesses  The borough’s reputation for high tech industry will be expanded

  14. A borough with heritage and distinction Our borough will have the best of both worlds: a modern and vibrant town with beautiful countryside  The importance of conserving and enriching the borough’s history and culture will be recognised and embraced to promote its unique heritage and develop its reputation nationally.  Where relevant, new developments and regeneration will be carefully and respectfully integrated with historic areas.  Rural areas will retain their identity and separateness as the town grows  Continuing to invest in Basingstoke town centre will ensure the town remains a vibrant hub.
