Second Runway

5

  • The purpose of the Notice of Requirements is to

alter the existing designation which permits the construction of a second runway with an overall length of 2150m

  • The alteration to designation is not seeking

approval for a new second runway

  • Changes needed include:
  • moving 72 metres further north
  • increasing the length by 833 metres
  • Increasing Obstacle Limitation Surfaces
slide-7
SLIDE 7
slide-8
SLIDE 8

7

  • The OLS extends
  • utwards from the

runway centre line restricting the maximum height of obstacles (i.e. buildings, trees) in the airspace surrounding the airport

  • Ensures aircraft maintain

a level of safety while maneuvering at a low altitude

slide-9
SLIDE 9

8

  • Based on demand forecasts, planned to be
  • perational in 2028
  • Experience in Australia suggests that planning and

construction have a ten year lead time

  • Earthworks are estimated to start between 2020 and

2021

  • Length and staging of the second runway are yet to be

determined:

  • potentially an initial stage runway of 2,265m,

and a final stage runway of 2,983m.

  • Building a full-length runway in one stage

remains a possible option

  • Maintaining connections to Auckland Airport is

fundamental

  • The airport's transport network needs to

integrate with the wider regional transport

  • Achieved through a shift in mode of travel,

sequence of airport transport network improvements and implementation of demand management strategies

slide-13

12

  • Precinct signal meters – operated

collaboratively with Auckland Transport Operations Centre (ATOC)

  • Nixon Road stage one completed – Park and

Ride access from southeast

  • Southern Bypass completed late 2018 – will

allow heavy vehicles

  • DTB forecourt reconfiguration
  • High occupancy lanes – Tom Pearce Drive
slide-14

13

  • Voluntary accord with National Road Carriers

Association

  • Collaborating to reduce the flow of heavy

vehicles during peak periods

  • Worked with AT and NZTA on identifying two

alternative routes to travel southeast rather than go through the precinct

  • This relies on cooperation with local

businesses

Tactical responses to queries raised by businesses:

  • Traffic Signal monitoring and response
  • Safety concerns on Montgomerie Road
  • Parking & Visibility on Airpark Drive and Richard Pearce Drive
  • Lane changes at Richard Pearce and Ascot Road intersection

Queries raised by Airport Connect

  • Hearing that cars and truck parking as well as unloading
  • Broken yellow lines were installed last year at critical locations
  • Review the route for introducing more broken yellow lines and ensure

access for buses is not hindered

  • Will also need to consider impact on Parking within the Airport Oaks area

and options available
