Background

Aim
To ensure:
- Everything that can reasonably be done to alleviate the problems which
local communities are raising is in fact being done, and;
- The mechanisms which Gatwick has adopted for providing information to
the local community and for handling complaints have been fully adequate for the task
Review Findings
- 23 recommendations
- Real opportunities to alleviate, significantly, the noise issues from Gatwick
arrivals
- Can only be realised fully if all the parties involved work together
- Gatwick Airport, NATS, CAA, DfT, local air traffic control and airlines
Progress to date
- Of 23 recommendations, one (number 19) required Gatwick to publish its
response no later than 31st March 2016
- Gatwick published response on 31st March 2016, available

What does this mean?
- Further community engagement is needed, together with closer work with
stakeholders
- Subject to six week period of community engagement – 31st March – 16th
May
- Ensures time for further analysis to understand full impact of implementation
Priorities
- Recommendation 01 – Airbus 320 family, retro-fitting of modification
- Recommendation 05 – Increasing the height of commencement of
Continuous Descent Arrival (CDA) from 6,000 ft to 7,000 ft
- Recommendation 10 – widening of arrivals swathe to the east and west of
the airport
- Recommendation 18 – Noise Management Board
Noise Management Board (NMB)
- Proposed Independent Chairman – Bo Redeborn. Group no larger than 10-
12 members
- Membership proposed – CAA, NATS, DfT, ANS, Airline, Chair of GATCOM,
East and West Community Representatives, two County Council representatives
- Invite sent out for County Council nominations, as well as nominations
through Parish, Town and Borough councils for Community Representatives
- Planning meeting to be held 18th May 2016, with first NMB scheduled for
21st June 2016
