Importance of Physical Activity

  • The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services

recommends kids 6 - 17 years participate in at least 60 minutes

  • f physical activity daily
  • Physical inactivity can increase the risk of obesity, cardiovascular

disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and low bone density

  • Modeling healthy habits at home is just as important

– Dance parties! – Family walks / bike rides – Family games – Doing chores and yardwork together

  • Spilt class into 4 groups and give each group a previous

nutrition lesson to discuss – Module 1: Mindful Eating – Module 2: Fruits and Vegetables – Module 3: Food labels and marketing (eating whole foods) – Module 4: Water

  • Each group should discuss 2 things they learned and 1 thing

they can do over the summer to practice that healthy behavior

  • Have each group share 1 discussion topic
