course

excellent and consistent achievement

Life ¡Science ¡7 ¡ ¡

O Students may earn HS science elective credit

(Exploratory Life Science SC623M) if:

  • 1. They are currently demonstrating excellent and

consistent mastery of course standards

  • 2. Choose to take a HS equivalent life science end
  • f course exam (ex. ACT EOCE Life Science)
  • 3. Pass this EOCE with a 70% or higher

O Students who take the exam and do not reach

70% benchmark will receive 7th grade science credit.

Physical ¡Science ¡8 ¡

O Students may earn HS physical science credit

if:

  • 1. They are currently demonstrating

excellent and consistent mastery of course standards

  • 2. Choose to take the state HS Next

Generation Physical Science Assessment

  • 3. Pass this assessment as determined by

the state determined benchmark score

O Students who do not take the HS Next

Generation assessment must take the Next Generation Science 8 exam.

O Students who do take the HS Next Generation

Physical Science exam and do not reach the state determined benchmark score will have an opportunity to retake Physical Science while in high school and will still receive credit for Science 8.

Algebra ¡1 ¡

O Students may earn HS Algebra 1 credit if:

  • 1. They are currently demonstrating

excellent and consistent mastery of course standards

  • 2. Choose to take the state HS Next

Generation Algebra 1 Assessment

  • 3. Pass this assessment as determined by

the state determined benchmark score

O Students who do not take the HS Next

Generation assessment must take the Next Generation Math 7 or 8 (depending on current grade level) exam.

O Students who do take the HS Next Generation

Algebra 1 exam and do not reach the state determined benchmark score will have an

  • pportunity to retake Algebra 1 while in high

school (or 8th grade) and will still receive credit for Math 7 or Math 8.

Geometry ¡

O Students may earn HS Geometry credit if:

  • 1. They are currently demonstrating

excellent and consistent mastery of course standards

  • 2. Choose to take the state HS Next

Generation Geometry Assessment

  • 3. Pass this assessment as determined by

the state determined benchmark score

O For those students and families who

commit to take a course for HS credit and if the student passes the end of course examination HS credit will be awarded.

O Course grade will show on JH report card O Only credit (not grade) will follow the

student to high school

O Forms due to your respective MS/JH office by

Friday J y Janu nuary 1 y 15, 2 , 2015. .

O Parents unsure of commitment should consult with

the student’s teacher.

O Students not returning the form by January 15,

2015 will be committed to take the appropriate state level examination for that subject and grade

O EX…Geometry students who do not return intent

form will take the Next Generation State Math 8 assessment.

Written ¡Acceleration ¡Plan ¡ Determination ¡

O If a family makes the decision to take the HS

credit assessment and the student meets the acceleration plan criteria as defined by board policy then students will receive a formal Written n Accele leration P n Pla lan ( n (WAP).

O Individual subject acceleration is evaluated

using a variety of data sources (OAA –

accelerated or advanced, STAR Math, and TerraNova), students desire for accelerated

placement, and student maturity.
