  2. | Lydia Hoopingarner METHOD / / FORMAT how i will be presenting findings | MACS 326 | • I want to make an animated storyline, so like a twine but using Adobe InDesign, Adobe Xd, and Adobe illustrator. Design Addiction | • It will be an interactive look into the ethical complexity of designing technology and how that can be controversial. • I want to dig into Tristan Harris’s ethical design theory and practice as well by placing the viewer in the seat of a designer and letting them feel how it can be difficult to understand the ethics of that position in a world that runs around money. And then present an education case study. 2

  3. | Lydia Hoopingarner KEY QUESTIONS / / TERMS what i will attempt to answer and how | MACS 326 | • I am interested in this topic because I am a design student, and one day I will be in this predicament. I also want to understand more Design Addiction | of how we can design products and be more aware of this issue, I think this will help me personally be a better designer. • How can we as designers be more aware of the magnitude of our jobs? • Is there a better way to design things while being conscious of ethics? • How do we teach others the effects of design on our everyday lives? Addiction, Technology, Ethics, Design, User 3

  4. | Lydia Hoopingarner OUTLINE plan to make this happen | MACS 326 | • First I plan to state a scenario where the user can kind of pick their own adventure when creating an app, something that would make Design Addiction | their lives easier like; texting, fingerprint ID, calendar updates, etc. • When ‘they’ have created their shortcut to daily life, I will show them how Tristan Harris would say it is going to change their lives. Using his ted talk, his speeches, and his manifesto, I will dig into ethical design and educate others on the subject. • Hopefully this will leave people conscious of what they have the potential of doing as designers. 1. INTRO / / user is a designer, working on creating basic SMS text messaging (asking them questions like ‘if you want to talk to someone instantly would you rather xyz’ and let them pick their design destinations which will lead to creating texting). 2. TRISTAN HARRIS / / Introduce his view and methods on design and design ethics. Bio, current job, case studies he has done. 3. WHAT’S NEXT? / / Talk about how to be more conscious of our design decisions. 4
