Membership • AAAI is a membership organiza2on – Members elect/run for AAAI officer posi2ons – Can also apply for member awards • Senior members, Fellows • The membership is holding steady, but we are ac2vely pursuing proposals to increase it – We are par2cularly interested in increasing interna5onal and industry membership • We also started a “AAAI Affiliates” ini2a2ve – Outreach to ~4,000 non-member scien2sts who regularly contribute to AAAI ac2vi2es

The AAAI Awards www.aaai.org/awards • Dis5nguished Service Award – One individual each year for extraordinary service to the AI community – Nominator • AAAI Senior Member – AAAI members who have achieved significant accomplishments within the field of ar2ficial intelligence (10+ yrs) – Consecu2ve members of AAAI for at least 5 years or life members – Self nomina2on + 2 references (one Senior member or AAAI Fellow) • AAAI Fellows – Have made significant, sustained contribu2ons to the field of ar2ficial intelligence over many years (10+ yrs ater PhD, or equivalent) – Members for at least the last 3 years or life members – Nominator + 2 references – one has to be a AAAI Fellow • Classic Paper Award • Engelmore Award, Feigenbaum Prize, ACM/AAAI Allen Newell Award

Developing Countries Membership Ini2a2ve • Reduced membership prices for “weak currency” countries • Requirement: – Form a commiWee of 5 AI local researchers • Translate AAAI materials into local language(s) • Distribute them within country • Provide informa2on to AAAI membership commiWee about local interests and concerns – hWp://www.aaai.org/Membership/ membership.php#Rates

  22. AAAI Chapters • There has been some resurgent interest in AAAI chapters – Given the significant public interest in AI, the AAAI council is very suppor2ve of chapters – (Dis2nguished Speaker Program)

Infrastructure Improvement Ac2vi2es • Plans to overhaul/modernize the AAAI Website – A contractor has been iden2fied and work is expected to start ater the conference • A chock full of plans to energize the AI Magazine – Ashok Goel has taken over as the new AI Magazine editor • AI Hub—an ini2a2ve to provide a unified face of AI to the public

Policy & Public Outreach Ac2vi2es • AAAI con2nues to be the prominent voice of the science of AI – We have a board posi2on on the new Partnership for AI ini2a2ve (Rao is one of the 12 trustees) – We have coordinated with the OSTP on the “Future of AI” study effort – Signed an MOU with CCF, China – Currently in talks with ACM about joint ac2vi2es in the sphere of AI and society.
