 Goal #1 (STEM) – By June 30, 2021, the Valley Stream UFSD #13 will have

progressively enhanced the curriculum and instructional practices in the area

  • f STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) with

concomitant achievement in the areas of STEM being demonstrated by students.

 Objective #1 - By June 30, 2017, a communications plan will be in place

through with staff, students, and parents will develop an understanding of the Valley Stream UFSD #13 STEM program goals and definitions.

 Objective #2 – By June 30, 2019, multiple staff development activities based

  • n STEM curriculum will have been offered to teachers at all levels in Valley

 Goal #2 (Social Studies) – By June 30, 2021, the Valley Stream UFSD #13 will

have progressively enhanced the curriculum and instructional practices in the area of Social Studies, consistent with the New York State K-12 Social Studies Framework.

 Objective #1 - By September 1, 2018, the Council of Chief State School

Officers’ Career and Civic Life (C3) Framework for Inquiry in Social Studies, which offers teachers a foundation for designing curricular and instructional materials in five important areas of Social Studies, will have been implemented

 Goal #3 (Social Emotional Learning) – By July 2018, the Valley Stream UFSD

#13 will have enhanced curricular offerings and staffing in Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) in order to better assist students in thought and decision-making processes and ensure a deeper understanding of the role which emotions play in both academic and personal success.

 Objective #1 - By June 2017, the Ruler Program (SEL) will have been initially

implemented in Grades K-6

 Goal #4 (Special Education) – By June 30, 2021, district special education

programs will be enhanced to better ensure they meet the individual needs of students, including the establishment of a district-wide understanding of a common definition of programs of inclusion that is consistent with the District’s mission, vision, and belief statements.

 Objective #1 - By January 2017, a multi-year special education professional

development plan will be in place, consistent with the findings and recommendations of the February 2016 Schools of Promise Report, which will provide each member of the instructional staff with professional development

  • pportunities designed to promote the differentiation of instruction as well as

implementing specialized instruction within inclusive settings.

 Goal #4 (Special Education) – By June 30, 2021, district special education

programs will be enhanced to better ensure they meet the individual needs of students, including the establishment of a district-wide understanding of a common definition of programs of inclusion that is consistent with the District’s mission, vision, and belief statements.

 Objective #2 - Beginning in the fall of 2016, modifications of current

instructional practices in special education will be explored by staff with redefined practices implemented and evaluated beginning in the 2017-2018 school year.

 Goal #5 (Facilities and Security) – By June 30, 2021, the school district’s

facilities and school security practices will be enhanced to be more reflective

  • f the 21st century school facility standards.

 Objective #1 - By July 2016, a methodology and schedule will be in place for

communicating to district stakeholders the status and progress on the Capital Projects work authorized by the December 2015 bond issue approval.

 Objective #2 – By September 2017, an updated Building Security Plan for

facilities in Valley Stream UFSD #13 will be begin to be implemented.

projection for the district will be undertaken, utilizing existing school attendance boundaries, and including an analysis of the projected feasibility

  • f providing Kindergarten classes at Wheeler Avenue School given the

completed bond-issue construction work.
