Acceleration

  • the strategy of exposing groups or populations of students to higher-level content

and more challenging assignments earlier in their education. The goal of this approach is to move all students in a class, school, district, or education system further ahead—i.e., past the common or former educational expectations for their age or grade level.

  • the term can refer to the early promotion of individual students to the next grade
  • r higher (based on their academic achievements or readiness for higher-level

work); advancing them in one or more content areas; or allowing them to work independently on more advanced work. The term may also be used in reference to programs or approaches aimed at students in “gifted and talented” programs.

Multiple Data Points

A data point is a discrete unit of information. In a general sense, any single fact is a data point. In a statistical or analytical context, a data point is usually derived from a measurement or research and can be represented numerically and/or graphically

Living Environment - Biology

Living Environment – Biology provides an opportunity for students to take a high school level science course and therefore requires a serious commitment from students. All students are placed in Regents-level courses on a probationary basis. By enrolling in this course:

  • Students must maintain an 80 average or higher to remain in the course.
  • Students who have not maintained an 80 average or higher by the end of

second marking period will be placed in Science 8 at the start of the third marking period. Students who take Science 8 are not precluded from advanced coursework in high school as long as prerequisites are met.

Accelerated Science 7th grade Entry Criteria

Teacher Recommendation - teachers base their recommendation on quarterly grades and classwork/work ethic and provide their recommendations to counselors.

  • -Accelerated Science 7 builds upon an assumes strong understanding of

the previous year’s content. The depth of inquiry is at a deeper/faster pace.

  • -Science 7 builds upon and reinforces the previous year’s content to

ensure deep understanding.

  • - The content/units covered are the same and all instructional units are

Accelerated Art Pathway

Studio in Art Begins in Grade 7 and concludes in Grade 8 Studio in Art is designed to provide a foundation for advanced courses and satisfies the CULTURAL ART GRADUATION REQUIREMENT. Emphasis is placed

  • n understanding the Elements of Art and Principles of Design as a basis for
  • composition. Students will explore a variety of artists, art processes and

materials such as drawing, painting, printmaking, two & three-dimensional design, and digital art. Student artwork will reflect aesthetics & cultural and historical contexts. Willingness to get involved in the creative process is a more important requirement than the student’s talent or previous

  • experience. A lab fee is required.

Aleks is a Web-based, artificially intelligent assessment and learning system. ALEKS uses adaptive questioning to quickly and accurately determine exactly what a student knows and doesn't know in a course. ALEKS then instructs the student on the topics he/she is most ready to learn.
