Workers between 15 and 24 (young workers) have the highest risk of getting hurt at work – up to twice that of other workers. By combining industry and regulatory requirements, CTS safety training and the emerging workforce, Safety in Schools will reduce and eliminate workplace injuries and fatalities of young workers across Alberta.

OUR STORY

Safety in Schools has developed online safety training courses for high school teachers that provide industry-recognized, dual credit workplace safety training at no cost. Our courses have been aligned with the Alberta curriculum for AGR3000, HCS3000 and HCS3010, allowing teachers to provide their students with a student-centred learning resource that will give students workplace safety knowledge before they step onto the worksite. Safety in Schools courses are recognized by the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals, Canadian Registration Board of Occupational Hygienists, and the American Board

  • f Industrial Hygiene. Our courses are also recognized by the University of Calgary, which

awards up to 30 hours of credit towards their Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Certificate, a dual credit for high school students. By combining industry online safety training modules and hands-on teacher led curriculum, we are preparing the next generation of young workers to enter the workforce with a better understanding of safety and their role in encouraging, maintaining and advocating for a safe workplace.

The program has performed flawlessly. The students find navigation through each module easily achieved and find the consistency of the lay out between modules helpful…. I also found the program very easy to utilize from a teacher's perspective. Results on each module were quickly updated which made tracking student progress with up to date data very easy. – Greg Woronuk – Instructor, Aboriginal Awareness Program, GPRC
