Fine Arts Requirement

  • You must earn 1.0 credit of a Fine Art to graduate.
  • This does not count as one of your 8 required electives.
  • Everything under Performing Arts and Visual Arts will count
  • Chorus, Band, AICE Music, Theatre, Dance, etc.
  • Art 2-D, Creating 2/D art, Photography, etc.

Virtual School Requirement

❑ You must complete this requirement in order to graduate. ❑ You must complete an entire course. Some courses are only .5 credit, while others are 1.0 credit. You must take both semesters for a 1.0 credit class. ❑ Below are courses that students are generally able to finish within a semester and will count as your requirement. ▶ You will be promoted to the next grade regardless of how many credits

you earn.

▶ Most students earn 7 credits a year to graduate in 4 years with 28 credits.

Remember, generally students need 24 to graduate.

▶ If you fail courses required for graduation, i.e. English, math, science,

social studies, etc., you must earn the lost credits on your own time.

▶ Even if you are promoted, you will not graduate until the lost credits have

been earned.

How Many Credits Do I Need to Be Promoted?

▶ A required course can be forgiven by

the same or a comparable course.

▶ A regular level academic course can

be used to forgive a D or F earned in a like regular, honors, A.I.C.E. or A.P. course.

▶ If a D or F is earned on the retake,

all attempts will be calculated.

▶ Some colleges count ALL attempts

in their recalculation.

▶ If you miss More than 10% of

course, you must pass at least one nine-week marking period and the semester exam to earn credit for that semester of the course.

▶ EOC Assessment course, you must

earn a passing grade in the fourth nine-weeks, in order to earn credit for the class if too many absences are earned.

▶ “Block Periods”=“2 Absences”

Step 1: 2/18 - 2/21 Counselors meet with students and share the course request sheet and graduation requirements. Step 2: 2/18 - 3/1 Teachers make academic recommendations in SIS; students get necessary signatures from teachers. Students also choose electives in SIS. Parents can review through the student’s portal. Step 3: 3/4 - 3/8 Counselors meet with students individually through social studies/science to review and approve courses. Schedules are then locked.

  • Individual reviews will be March 4th – 8th.
  • Please do not rush to see your counselor. You

can make changes to your schedule until the end of the school year.

asterisks by certain classes.

▶ Asterisks mean that you will need a teacher’s approval

to take this class.

▶ You may not select these classes on the SIS gateway. ▶ Have teachers sign the sheet and take the sheet to a

school counselor during individual meetings.

▶ The school counselor will input the classes that are

signed for you.

Dual Enrollment

What are the benefits?

▪ Earn college credit while in high school. Credits count toward college and high school. ▪ DE is FREE while you are in high school. Earning credit may help you save money for college. ▪ Helps you build a more competitive academic profile for colleges if you do well.

How do you qualify?

▪ You must speak with your guidance counselor ▪ You must be in 10th, 11th or 12th grade. ▪ You must have a 3.0 GPA and college ready test scores

What is Early Admission?

▪ You must be a senior with college ready test scores and a 3.2 unweighted GPA to participate. ▪ You enroll full time your senior year in college classes at PBSC, while still remaining a Wellington student. ▪ You must be recommended by principal and guidance counselor.

Considerations

▪ You will be starting your official college GPA. Not doing well in a class could impact your admission to colleges and your eligibility for Florida Bright Futures. ▪ Earning a D or F may disqualify you from continuing the Dual Enrollment program.
