Purpose of NYS Regents Exams

  • Achievement tests that are aligned with New York State’s learning standards;
  • Prepared by teacher examination committees and Department subject and testing

specialists;

  • Provide schools with a basis for evaluating the quality of instruction and learning;
  • Used by school personnel to identify major learning goals offering teachers and

students a guide to important understandings, skills, and concepts;

  • Provide students, parents, counselors, administrators, college admissions officers, and

employers with objective and easily understood achievement information for use in making sound educational and vocational decisions;

  • Passing scores on the Regents Exams in English, mathematics, science, and social

Comparative Data: Similar Schools and Neighboring Schools

  • The Similar Schools identification model was developed in 1998 for the purposes of

school reporting and the New York State School Report Card.

  • The NYSED classification, similar schools include
  • Grade range of students served by the school
  • School district capabilities (Economically Disadvantaged)
  • Needs of the school student population (Special Education and English Language Learners)
  • Neighboring schools are schools that surround or are in proximity by distance to our

District.
