Homelessness

  • 25-34 is the most common age bracket for

homeless – with 16-19 group representing a decrease in people accepted as homeless Youth Homelessness

  • Approx 4000 police phone calls related to domestic

violence, mainly from women living in Central Hounslow and Feltham areas Domestic Violence

  • The use of Temp Accommodation increased

dramatically from 741 in March 2012 to 1,067 by March 2013 and predicted to increase Temporary Accommodation

  • At any one time there are between 10-50 people

sleeping rough across the borough – in May 2013/14 the total rough sleepers in the borough were 31 Rough Sleeping

  • 1. To provide a choice of high quality housing for people at all stages
  • f their lives at prices they can afford.
  • 2. To raise housing quality and standards across tenures, enhancing

local areas and supporting thriving communities.

  • 3. To support our communities to live independently by promoting

health and wellbeing.

  • 4. To support residents from becoming homeless and provide housing
  • ptions and advice if they are homeless.
  • 5. To create cleaner, safer and greener living environments for our

local communities.

Objective 1

‘To provide a choice of high quality housing for people at all stages of their lives at prices they can afford’ To achieve this objective - some of our proposals include;

  • build 3000 affordable homes (600 on HRA land)
  • Work with developers to secure a minimum of 41% of

affordable homes on proposed developments of 10 or more units

  • Secure a tenure split of 60% affordable rent and 40% low cost

home ownership

  • Aim to secure 10% of all new homes specifically identified and

suitable for people with disabilities

  • we will aim to bring 250 empty homes back into use

Objective 2

‘To raise housing quality and standards across tenures enhancing local areas and supporting thriving communities’ To achieve this objective - some of our proposals include;

  • Review our private sector housing stock through a stock remodelling
  • Use our enforcement powers to regulate HMOs, empty properties
  • Strengthen our ALMO performance monitoring to secure excellent

tenant services

  • Tackle tenancy fraud and corruption
  • Continue to meet decent home standards at 100%

  • Better integrate and co-ordinate our work internally
  • Complete construction of 4 sheltered housing schemes
  • We will roll out a smokefree homes campaign
  • Support older people to remain in their own homes
  • Increase social development opportunities by upgrading and

building play spaces within the borough

‘To support residents from becoming homeless and provide housing options and advice if they become homeless’ To achieve this objective - some of our proposals include;

  • We will redesign our homeless service
  • We will actively engage in preventing mortgage repossessions
  • We will actively seek to monitor and support residents who are

affected by welfare reforms

  • We will work with the private sector and provide an attractive

package of options – both to landlords and eligible tenants

  • We will be more proactive in moving on households from

temporary accommodation

‘To create a cleaner, safer and greener living environment’ To achieve this objective - some of our proposals include;

  • We will expand our estate wardens role and scheme
  • Improve our joint working corporately with residents, police

and Hounslow Homes to tackle issues of community safety

  • We will deliver energy efficiency improvements to up to

10,000 homes across the borough over the next 2-3 years
