Fix your car if you notice any oil stains on your driveway or under your car Pick up litter and trash that is in the gutter in front of your home or business Wash your car at a commercial car wash or on the lawn rather than on the driveway or street where the dirty water will run into the storm drain Fix your sprinklers so the water only lands on your lawn and not on the streets or sidewalks Sweep up your driveway or sidewalk with a broom and dustpan instead of washing them down into the street and storm drains Pick up and dispose of your dog’s waste Use non-toxic substances rather than pesticides and herbicides in your garden Dispose of cigarettes in ash trays rather than throwing them on the ground or out your car window

  • 16. I am going to mention a list of ways money from this Clean Water Clean Beaches measure could be used. Regardless of your opinion of the measure, after I mention each one, please tell

me how willing you would be personally to pay for that proposed item through a clean water fee. We will use a scale of one to seven, where one means NOT AT ALL WILLING to vote to pay for the use and seven means you are VERY WILLING to pay for the use. If you have no opinion or don't know enough about that item I mention, you can tell me that too. Here is the first one... *Split Sample

Conclusions

Only a minority of voters consider pollution of local creeks, ocean and local beaches as a very or somewhat serious problem About a quarter of voters recall County/Project Clean Water as messenger T.V. is overwhelmingly citied as the source of information about storm water or storm drain-related issues There is modest understanding of the storm drain system, with no improvement across the County from 2002 to 2010

Continued

A Clean Water, Clean Beaches revenue measure does not appear to be viable at this time With additional education, a 2% Transient Occupancy Tax increase in the unincorporated areas is possible Voters are more likely to support a measure if strict accountability provisions are included Messaging “Keeping toxic chemicals, bacteria and trash out of local creeks, rivers and coastal waters” and “Keeping beaches free of toxic chemicals and infection-causing bacteria” resonates strongly with voters
