Answered: 108 Skipped: 10

79.63% 20.37%

  • The training is always good and this

was no exception.

  • More information on seals.
  • Yes. Found helpful. Necessary.
  • The training was excellent and really

helped on the first shift.

  • Always very useful.
  • If was a good reminder and only

included new information.

  • Not needed for experienced

wardens every year.

  • It would be good if the committee

could sit with the wardens during the training.

Q4: New Wardens - Did you take up the offer of being met on site for your first shift? Did you find this helpful?. Please tell us more in the comments section below. Previous wardens, please move to Q5.

  • Some newbies would prefer the first

shift to be with an existing warden.

  • Lots of helpful chats with duty warden

and then other wardens.

  • Yes - very helpful, but in hindsight it

would have been helpful to be paired with an experienced warden for the first shift (l had paired with another new warden).

  • My buddy was on shift with me.
  • My wife is aware where I’m

wardening and the time I’m due to

  • finish. I have my phone fully charged

and let her know when I’m about to leave the car park.

  • I did not use it but it was in place if I

needed to.

Q6: Do you find the online booking system easy to use?

Answered: 112 Skipped: 6

100%

  • The booking system was fantastic,

easy to use and very well designed. I feel that a number of well known businesses could learn a great deal from your website builder / website admin team. VERY WELL DONE.

Answered: 112 Skipped: 6

58.93% 38.39% 2.68%

  • I used the forum to read the duty

wardens reports in order to find out what was going on. I didn't actually add anything to it.

  • I use it all the time.
  • I’m still learning how to use it!

Q8: Did you find the forum easy to use?

Answered: 108 Skipped: 10

91.67% 8.33%

  • Hesitant at first, but a very good facility.

Another good use would be almost a daily log, advising wardens coming on duty what is going on at each post .... new borne, seals in trouble, closures to paths etc ....... this was sadly lacking and led to issues when turning up for duty.

  • I found the new Winterton section most

useful, as I wardened there more than Horsey.

  • Too many titles.
  • I forgot it was there.

Q9: Could the DW role support wardens better?

Answered: 106 Skipped: 12

11.32% 88.68%

  • No! It’s okay as it is.
  • The duty wardens worked really hard.

I have never met a more dedicated and hardworking crew. I do feel that

  • nce the pups are on the move and

the DW's job got more involved, there was a need for a second duty officer (if available) ..... or at least a deputy that can help manage minor incidents. Not a criticism, more an observation and one that could be created as a lead up to being a duty warden.

Q10: What part of the day did you warden?

Answered: 111 Skipped: 7

  • I tend to look at gaps on the rota and

if I can fill them after booking my initial six shifts in.

  • I was able to fit in a couple of

weekdays during the busy weeks and chose to warden these with a friend to share the driving and the occasional vociferous visitor!

  • Talking to people and passing on information to educate visitors. See all

the seals from new born to the bulls.

  • Seeing the seals in large numbers with so many pups. Talking to the

public and receiving their thanks for being able to answer most of their questions.

  • I don't enjoy it when there are too many visitors, and it is difficult to get

to the car park (and impossible to turn around to park elsewhere)

Q13: Did you enjoy most / least about wardening?

Q14: Did you warden at Winterton this season?

Answered: 111 Skipped: 7

44.14% 55.86%

  • No. But no reason, I prefer Horsey.
  • I have some difficulty walking on sand, so

Horsey was best for me.

  • No. Mainly because this was my first

season as a warden. I wanted to feel confident that I was giving the right information/approaching visitors in the most effect way first.

  • Horsey is much nearer for me.

Q15: Do you have any suggestions for making the wardening experience better next season?

Answered: 104 Skipped: 14

38.46% 61.54%

  • Signs asking visitors to pick up dog poo.
  • Incorporate some role plays of how to deal with

slightly more difficult situations – 1. experienced one, where a man with four dogs refused to put them on a lead and became very aggressive. I fell back on my training that we can only try and persuade. 2. Pick up

  • n questions raised during the season and build into
  • handbook. For example is the coastal footpath below

sea level - answered in the forum.

  • Maybe the Forum could be adapted with a section

just for questions arising so that newbies can review a Q & A and learn from facts.

  • A system could be set up where wardens could car

share.
