 The mission of the Office of Counseling Services of Florida A

& M University is to increase students’ academic success, self- awareness, and knowledge of potential growth and challenges

consultation, and crisis intervention. The Office of Counseling Services exemplifies and seeks to foster within those whom they serve the following values: courage, diversity, ethics, excellence, respect, scholarship, and service.

We are available for you!

 Fall, spring, and summer hours M-F 8-5, Thursday 5-

7pm by appointment

 12 free sessions per semester  Make an appointment or walk-in…you can also walk a

friend over

 All of our counselors are licensed with at least a

Master’s degree.

 We have male and female counselors

Confidentiality

 By law, no information about a client may be provided

to any entity without the written consent of the adult

  • client. This information includes, but is not limited to,

whether or not the client was/is in treatment, the counselor, client’s diagnosis, or progress in treatment.

Confidentiality

 Counseling is CONFIDENTIAL  Nothing is put on your student records and

professors/staff/friends/family are not informed who is coming to counseling

 Exception: If you are a threat to hurt yourself or others

(suicidal or threatening to harm someone) we have the

  • bligation to contact whomever can provide

protection; court order requires disclosure

What we do not do

 Provide services to students who are not currently

enrolled, unless a $100 fee is paid to student health services

 Provide services to families of FAMU students when

the primary concern is not the FAMU student.

 Provide services to faculty or staff.  Provide services outside our office.  Provide services to students with concerns beyond our

  • scope. External referrals:

 Actively suicidal/Homicidal  Psychotic
