Progressive and polarising – the self-coined name Neonyt is derived from the Ancient Greek word “neo” (which means new and revolutionary in English) and the Scandinavian word “nytt” (which also means new). The “renewed new” – Neonyt is our synonym for the fundamental transformation process of the fashion and textile industry. Last year, the hub concept took over from the trade show duo Greenshowroom and Ethical Fashion Show Berlin. Under the joint name, the platform is realigning itself to confidently reflect ambitious fashion standards and the desire to create something new.   5. Water is our topic. T o produce a pair of jeans, the textile industry – according to a calculation by Greenpeace – needs an average of 7 ,000 litres of water. Starting with the water-intensive cotton growing, which often takes place in regions with little rainfall, to the wet processes of dyeing, washing and finishing of the fabrics down to the cut, make, trim (CMT) process – the extensive use of resources has become a problematic hallmark of globalised fashion supply chains. And this analysis doesn’t even take the secondary effects on the water cycle into account: from pesticides and herbicides in the groundwater to chemically polluted industrial wastewater in rivers and wastewater from washing machines conta- minated by microplastics, nanoparticles and laundry detergents. So it’s high time for the fashion industry to take a more holistic and consistent approach.
