SODA has been working with SDSU and the Jackrabbit Council for the past 3 years on this project

Economic impact of over t\.vo billion dollars per year. SODA has been assisting the Northern Beef Packers plant in obtaining their South Dakota Certifiedm status.

2011 Attendance up 7.5% to 191,158 2011 Total exhibitors and exhibit entries up over 5% Total sales tax collected during the 201 1 Fair has increased over 19% Revenues from admissions, camping, carnival rides, food , and vending have increased over 2010 figures.

  • Flooding along the Southeastern portion of the

Missouri River was the 5th assignment.

A levee 6 miles long and 11 feet tall l1ad to be constructed in 8 days. Supervised the construction of the levee system in Dakota Dunes and ensured that the $370 million of infrastructure was protected .

  • 50,587 acres for 572

private landowners have been surveyed

  • 143,954 infested trees

have been marked

  • 45 landowners have

been reimbursed $54, 142 for tree removal

  • Custer State Park has marked 61 ,832 infested trees to be

removed in the next 3 months

30,500 trees have already been cut and treated

East River Legislative Tour

SODA helped coordinate the East River Legislative Tour with DENR & GF&P.

Noxious Weeds

  • Over a million acre decrease in all noxious weeds

A new weed was added to the locally noxious list.

  • 28,000 acre decrease in State noxious weeds

Over 1 million bio-control agents given to private landowner for the control of Leafy Spurge, Mullein, Spotted knapweed, and the toadflaxes.

  • Intergovernmental cooperation has improved the weed

control on our state owned lands and right-of-ways.

  • Distribution of an educational booklet and development

  • $450,000 in grants funds to the counties and others for

control of noxious weeds and pests

Wildland Fire Suppression

  • 1,254 fi res on federal lands which burned 97,248 acres,

along with 52 1 fires on State and private lands w ithin the State of South Dakota that were responded to by SODA and/or local volunteer fire departments.

  • Hand crews treated 2100 acres of hazardous fuels,

burned 20,589 piles and used prescribed fire to burn 500 acres of forested and grass lands.

  • Conducted 57 training classes conducted throughout

the state for: Volunteer fire departments, Local fire agencies, Federal agencies, and State agencies.

  • Helped out other states in their time of need by sending

resources.

  • Provided 12 "Community Forestry Challenge Grants"

to South Dakota communities for a total of $40,180.

  • Recertified 36 communities as "Tree City, USA's."
  • Supported the international environmental education

program "Project Learning Tree."

Conservation Program" grant applications totaling $865,869

Wine & Cheese Pavilion

  • In 201 1, $39,250 grossed in wine, beer and cheese

products. In 2007, sales reached

varieties of wine

  • 2 breweries and 6

different South Dakota beers

  • 6 cheese plants provided 15 different varieties of

cheese for sampling and sales
