Attendance

Year 12 students are expected to attend the Academy for all timetabled lessons during this program. Student attendance is directly related to student achievement. SWOTVAC starts at the beginning of Term 4. A tutorial program will run during SWOTVAC until the start of the IB exams in Week 4. “Flexible Attendance Permission Form” – in the Attachments section

Formal

Saturday 1st August at Hilton Brisbane

Conference

Held on the last two days of Term 3, marking the end of formal lessons: 17 – 18 September 2020. The conference will focus on skills to support our Year 12 students to thrive in the lead up to November exams. It will include:  SWOTVAC preparation and planning.  Final CAS sign off – IB requirement.  Health and wellbeing for maximising good study habits.  Study skills.  A fun day out with their peers.

Valedictory Dinner

Held on Friday 13 November at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre  Celebrate students completing Year 12 and the IB.  Academic gowns to be worn.  QASMT certificate issued.  Formal sit down dinner with two guests – tickets sold in Term 4.  Professional photos are included.  Last official day of Year 12.

Guidance Officer Interviews

There will be scheduled interviews with every student in the coming term to discuss their university applications. These have been scheduled for Term 2. Additional appointments will be available in Term 3 and 4 if needed.

Applications

Most Australian tertiary applications open in early August each year. Each state has its own application centre and therefore a separate application process. More information about the application process will be provided in term 3.

The Importance of the Mock Exams

 Students will sit Mock Exams under the same exam conditions as the real November exams  Model of the November exam experience (full IB exam conditions)  Teachers will set an IB standard exam and mark it using IB standard marking criteria  Feedback is paramount to the revision  To be conducted during Term 3 (August)  Conduct and expectations  Materials allowed

Conduct and Expectations

  • Notice to candidates
  • On exam days, ensure that you allow yourself sufficient travelling time, taking

into consideration peak hour traffic if it is a morning paper. You are to arrive at the exam venue no later than 15 minutes before the scheduled exam time.

  • Public and private transport plan, back up transport plan.
  • If for any reasons, you are going to be late for an exam, it is important that the

Chief Invigilator is informed immediately (0410 503 934).

Conduct and Expectations

  • Minor illness: if you are ill on or before an exam day you should still sit for

the exam but should obtain a medical certificate prior to or after the exam. If deemed necessary, the IB coordinator will be able to apply to the IB for adverse circumstances.

  • Serious illness, injury, accident and unforeseen family circumstances:

should any of these events happen soon, before or during the exam period please contact the IB coordinator at the first instance.

Important Dates

  • Student results are scheduled to be released to students on 17 December at

0600hrs GMT (4.00pm our time). Please note this is subjected to change and will be updated closer to the time.

  • Option to change QTAC preferences after results - final date to be confirmed.
  • EURs can be requested and paid for by 21 December.
  • Diplomas collected from school in March 2021.
