We are advocates of and incorporate the USA Hockey ADM "American Development Model" into our youth hockey development model. We stress the importance and value of team play. Sportsmanship We mandate “good sportsmanship” from the players, coaches, and parents as well as others representing Yale Youth Hockey.

Core Belief Yale Youth Hockey allows our children, parents and families to integrate into the Yale community and experience Yale’s history and culture.

  8. Yale Youth Hockey Association Season Our 2014-2015 Season is expected to begin in very early September and extend to the end of February. In recent years, CHC Tournaments and Outside Tournaments have extended into mid or late March. Ice Slot availability in February becomes more challenging and March is very unpredictable. Our 2014-2015 Season - September through February is ~26 Weeks. Practices (Travel Teams) We anticipate providing 2 Practice Ice Slots per week averaged over the Season. It is not logistically possible to guarantee 2 Practice Ice Slots per week each week, although 2 is our objective. Ice slot availability at every program and every rink is a moving target, unforeseen ice slot cancelations are common and weather related issues are uncontrollable. Games (Travel Teams) We anticipate providing 16 to 18 Home Game Ice Slots primarily at Ingalls Rink - Yale University. Some Home Game Ice Slots will be scheduled at outside rinks. Scheduling Games Away is the responsibility of the Team Manager and/or Head Coach. We expect at least as many Away Games to be scheduled as Home Game Ice Slots allocated. Tournaments (Travel Teams) Yale Youth Hockey Association funds the CHC and CGHL State Championship Tournaments, as well as one other tournament provided a team has not played in a mandated Yale Youth Hockey Association Tournament.

  9. Yale Youth Hockey Association Practices (House Limited-Travel Teams) We anticipate providing 1-2 Practice Ice Slots per week averaged over the Season. It is not logistically possible to guarantee 1-2 Practice Ice Slots per week each week, although 1-2 is our objective. Ice slot availability at every program and every rink is a moving target, unforeseen ice slot cancelations are common and weather related issues are uncontrollable. Games (House Limited-Travel Teams) We anticipate providing 3 to 4 Home Game Ice Slots at Ingalls Rink-Yale University. Scheduling Games Away is the responsibility of the Team Manager and/or Head Coach. We expect at least as many Away Games to be scheduled as Home Game Ice Slots allocated. Tournaments (House Limited-Travel Teams) Yale Youth Hockey Association funds 1 Season End Tournament.

  12. Yale Youth Hockey Philosophy  YYHA Subscribes to USA Hockey’s American Development Model (ADM)  Heavy emphasis on individual skill development (Skating, Passing, Puckhandling, Shooting, etc.)  Our goal is to create a community-based organization where all of our member families can Develop life-long friendships. From a hockey-specific standpoint, our goal is to create a culture where each member of the team is valued, our practices and games are organized, and our players are challenged, physically, socially, and emotionally to reach their potential as hockey players, athletes, and as people.  YYHA believes in USA Hockey’s focus on Long -Term Athlete Development (LTAD) – It is a marathon, not a sprint! “One of the biggest problems in youth hockey is that we (as parents and players) compare ourselves to those around us, our teammates, which fosters selfishness and breeds mediocrity. Instead, let us measure ourselves against an standard of competence / perfection and challenge ourselves to be better today than we were yesterday. That is how we will reach our full potential.”

  13. Synopsis of 2014-15 Initiatives  In an effort to provide all of our players access to exceptional coaching, all “A” and “A1” Level Coaches will be Credentialed, Stipend/Paid, Non Parent Coaches (Exception U-12 / U- 14 Girls). We have also designated all our “A” coaches at each level (Mite, Squirt, Pee - Wee, Bantam) Level Managers to insure consistent coaching and training methodologies. Many of our B Level Coaches are also Credentialed, Stipend/Paid, Non Parent Coaches.  In conjunction with our skill-based, program curriculum, which we will describe later in the presentation, we have decided to make a change to our weekly Skills Sessions with Shaun Hannah. In 2014- 2015, our Skills Sessions will be exclusively “ Powerskating ”. These sessions are included in all YYHA Membership Fees. It is imperative that all YYHA members take part in these sessions.  At the Pee-Wee A/A1 and Bantam A/A1 levels, we will have an alternating, bi-weekly practices where forwards and defenseman are split to work on skills specific to their position. More on this in later slides…
