Where is the Wadden Sea ?

  • It reaches from the Neatherland over the whole of

the North Sea coast to the Danish city of Esbjerg.

Usually it takes 3 to 5 hours to get from the mainland to one of the islands by foot. (From Cuxhaven to

Neuwerk e.g. you need 3-4 hours )

Or you can take a carriage.

The Dangerous Wadden Sea

  • Beware the mudholes! You can sink in deep.
  • Know the times of the high tide! High tide comes

quickly here and you run the risk of drowning.

  • Watch out for the tideways! Their current is very

strong.

  • Make sure you are not caught in sea fog! Sometimes

you can‘t see more than 3 meters ahead.

  • Know the weather forecast! It is not advisable to be
  • ut in the water during a thunderstorm.

Safety precaution

  • All over the Wadden Sea there are life rafts.
  • Never walk alone! There should always

be a person with you!

  • You should better wear trainers in the Wadden Sea

as the mussels have sharp edges.

  • Stick to the „normal“ routes!

General Informationen

  • The Black Forest is a

large forested mountain in the state of Baden- Württemberg in the south-west of Germany.

  • It‘s highest peak is the

Feldberg with an elevation of 1,493 metres. (Mount Everest 8,800m)

  • The region is almost

rectangular in shape with a length of 160 km (99 miles) and breadth of up to 60 km (37 miles).

Specific plant species and animal species

Plant species:

  • numerous species of orchids

Animals:

  • Caipercaillie cock, three-toed woodpecker, wildcat and the

eagle owl

  • Three species are found worldwide only in the territory of

the Black Forest the Badische Quellschnecke (a snail), Präger Dammläufer (a beetle) and the Badische Riesenregenwurm (earthworm).

The main industry of the Black Forest is tourism In spring, summer and autumn extensive hiking and cycle path networks enable various target groups to use the natural region. Winter sports include both downhill and Nordic skiing for which there are numerous facilities.

Nature Parks:

Nearly the whole Black forest is divided into two nature parks. Their aim is to preserve the countryside as a cultural landscape, to market local produce more effectively and to make the area more suitable for tourism. Their motto is : " Let nature be nature " .
