Thanks for coming along this evening

My name is Sally Tittle and I am the Lead for Wirral’s SEND Local Offer. A big part of my role is engaging with families who have children with additional needs. I work closely with the professionals in all Wirral school settings to offer a structured, considered , joined up approach to the SEND provision on offer.

Local Offer ? I hear you say….what’s that?

  • The SEND Reform Act 2014 made some big

changes and the Local Offer was borne out of this legislation.

  • The Local Offer sets out, in one place,

information about the provision you would expect to be available across Education, Health and Social Care for children and young people who have Special Educational needs or a Disability including those who do not have an Education Health Care Plan.

Think of it as a shop window……

A place where people can browse and find what they’re looking for all under one roof.

It has two key purposes

  • Firstly to make local provision more responsive to

the local needs and aspirations by directly involving our young SEND population, their parent/carers and service providers in its development and review.

  • Secondly, to provide CLEAR, COMPREHENSIVE,

ACCESSIBLE and UP TO DATE INFORMATION about the provision and how to access it.

Spreading the word…..

  • Three years in and it is evident that too many

families are unaware of the Local Offer.

  • Recognise the need to work in partnership with

schools so I can reach my target audience, namely you and your children to offer you the support you all need.

  • Lots of SENCOs have invited me along to one of their

school events such as today’s and it’s fantastic to be able to be here today to spread the word.

Feedback

I asked for honest feedback/views from the young people I meet and ……………they give it! No filter… “Too much information on a page” “ Use words I understand” “ I’d prefer brighter colours” “I’d like a magnifier” “Use bolder fonts” “ More videos”

Young Persons Voice

  • Real need to hear more from the young people

using the site.

  • Established a pupil forum to facilitate a site

review and I work with an established SEND group at Pilgrim Street Arts Theatre.

  • Assure them they are being listened to.
  • Involve them in the future shaping of the

services Wirral offer.
