Pickleball’s Economic Impact

  • Naples, Florida – just one example:

– U.S. Open in 2016 brought in over $2.5 million of direct impact with 800 players over 5 days – 2019 had 1,300 players from 42 states, played over 7 days – Pickleball contributed 5% of the 2018 Naples CVB’s budget – Jack Wert, executive director of the Naples CVB:

  • “Pickleball came at the right time. It’s a growing sport, and we’ve

made a long‐term commitment.”

  • “Pickleball has become a pleasant surprise, how much it’s been

embraced by the community. We’ve got multiple events each year… which is why it’s good to make a long‐term investment.”

  • “Pickleball is a people magnet… it has changed our city…”

  • 11,000+ athletes from all 50 states, and many from 81

different nations

  • $16 million in direct economic impact
  • The economic impact equals that of 2,628,950 Little

Caesars pizzas. Stacked one on top of each other, they would reach 41 miles into the sky.

Local Pickleball Information

  • Over 600 players in Northern Nevada
  • ~300 members in Truckee Meadows Pickleball Club
  • Carson City MAC has 12 beautiful indoor courts
  • CC Parks & Rec has allocated 3 tennis courts at Mills Park for

conversion to 10 dedicated outdoor pickleball courts.

  • Conversion is a joint effort between Parks & Rec and volunteers

from the Greater Carson City area.

  • Local players have raised over $12,000 for this project
  • Courts will be available for youth, families & retirees, free of charge
  • Mills Park Master Plan is up for revision this year
  • Will include plans for a world class Pickleball Complex:

– Could be built in stages to control costs – Ultimate goal is a facility capable of holding regional and perhaps national tournaments (24+ courts)
