ORCID and the Library’s Web Site
- ORCID encourages research institutions to become
members.
- UCLA and CDL are members
- Members can request ORCIDs for their researchers.
- The researcher is notified by email that an ORCID has been
created on their behalf.
- Research can deny the ORCID with 10 days.
- If no action in 10 days, the ORCID is valid.
- Library web site uses Shibboleth authentication for
students and faculty, and thus links University ID (UID) to the account.
- Drupal module to register ORCID with the Drupal account,
thus linking the ORCID to the UID.

Open Access and the CDL
- UC Faculty Senate approved open access policy.
- California Digital Library (CDL) was charged to implement
a system that allows faculty to comply with open access policy.
- Selected Elements, a product by Symplectic Inc.
- Elements has a powerful disambiguation engine.
- Elements also accepts ORCIDs.
- CDL configured Elements to include UID as an identifier.
