We are concerned Donna Smith, Jeanette Ward about the success of all children in U-46. CEO- Tony Sanders Through our involvement in CAC we learn Interim Superintendent- Dr. Kenneth Arndt about how the District works; we meet administrators, teachers, and School Board members; and we contribute our ideas and CAC Officers recommendations to improve our children ’ s Melissa Owens – Chairperson education through committee work. Dan Blake – Vice Chairperson Kevin Sweeney - Secretary WHAT HAS CAC GOALS & OBJECTIVES ACCOMPLISHED? � Study specific educational topics/ideas and make recommendations to the Board of Education � Family & Community Engagement Board Policy 8.01 (FACE) on ways to improve education in U-46. These studies and recommendations are performed in � SWAS - (School within a School (Gifted Committee) the various committees. � Academies (Ad-hoc Committee on High Schools) � Assist the Board and Administration in identifying � School boundaries (Enrollment & Facilities Committee) ways to achieve district objectives. � Special Education Resource Fair (Special Education Committee) � Provide a forum for residents of U-46 to express � Understanding U-46 Finances (Finance Committee) thoughts and ideas to the Board. � Safety training (Ad-hoc Committee on Cyberbullying) While CAC recommendations and studies do not have to be accepted or followed by the Board, our work is well received and the district � Curriculum rollout improvements (Curriculum Committee) has adopted many of our recommendations. Time and time again, the group’s work has made a meaningful contribution in the district . MEMBERSHIP LEADERSHIP Each school may have up to seven representatives — parents or community members that live within the school’s attendance boundary. School principals select five representatives; an additional two can be We ¡are ¡volunteers ¡just ¡like ¡you! ¡ appointed by the Executive Committee as “at-large” members. Committees 2015-2016 Fami mily & Commu mmunity Special Education Engageme ment � The Committee will act as a resource for parents of students in special education or those receiving special services/support. � The committee facilitates information sharing of U-46 programs and outside community programs available to their child though two annual events. Special Education University, November 4, 2015, focuses on educating parents about services within the District as well as understanding the IEP process. The Special Needs Parent Resource Fair, March 5, 2016, offers a wide range of service providers from Kane, Cook & DuPage counties. � The committee also works to provide opportunities for parent engagement with each other and in the district.
