  1. Where the tradition begins with valu alue and hi history ry The Theater, one of the oldest and most astonishing in Northern Italy, was inaugurated in 1813, the year best known to music lovers for the birth of Richard Wagner and Giuseppe Verdi. The construction work began in 1811 and the project was assigned to the architect Giuseppe Cusi. Teatro Sociale is also known with the nickname of “ Piccola Scala”, since it hosted the activities of Teatro alla Scala, after the bombing of 1943. In Como, over the centuries, great singers and musicians performed: from Giuditta Pasta and Maria Malibran to Toti Dal Monte, Simionato, Favero, Pagliughi, Cigna, Barbieri, Carosio, Caniglia, Zeani, Scotto, Olivero, Kabaivanska, Devia, and Tamagno, Gigli, Pertile, Schipa, Merli, Filippeschi, Del Monaco, Tagliabue, Pasero, Bechi, Poggi, Stabile, Bastianini, Rossi Lemeni, Bruscantini, Di Stefano, Bergonzi, Kraus, Dara, Giacomini, Nucci, to name just a few, and, among conductors, several from Arturo Toscanini to Riccardo Muti .

  2. From a glorious past to the future From 1st January 2002 the management has passed to the AsLiCo. The Theater, open more than 300 days a year, is part of the OperaLombardia circuit, that brings together in one big opera season five opera houses of Lombardy: the Fondazione Donizetti in Bergamo, the Teatro Grande in Brescia, the Sociale Como, Ponchielli of Cremona and Fraschini of Pavia. The Competition for Young Opera Singers , which celebrated its 70th edition in 2019, has been a fundamental step, for some of the opera stars. Among the many projects, planned to reach a new audience, holds an important record Opera Education , well known and acknowledged throughout Europe, which is divided into 5 large macro-activities: Opera -9 (for expectant mothers); Opera baby (for children from 0 to 3 years); Opera kids (for children from 3 to 6 years); Opera domani (from 6 to 14 years old, born in 1996, which reaches more than 3,000 teachers and 140,000 children each year all over Italy and abroad); from Opera it (for teenagers from 14 to 18 years).

  12. Advanced forms of communication The Teatro Sociale di Como has always had in its strings a strong vocation to experiment and has repeatedly shown a pioneering attitude, exploring new communication techniques, conventional and unconventional. Among the latter, the TSC was among the first in Italy, more than 10 years ago, to program flash mobs in the area, or moments of interaction that had an impact on the city or on the neighboring places (for example the lake area, Lake of Como, Maggiore and Lugano; Canton Ticino). Now, these activities, which continue to distinguish the identity of the theater, its liveliness and the desire to open to ever- changing audiences, are consolidated and entered at full capacity, with a periodic schedule. Traditional communication (via press office and publishing) is normally practiced, both in Italian and in English, alongside alternative communication initiatives, always different. The communication office has been working for years on the local, national and international fronts, thanks to active participation in the Opera Europa circuit and to synergies and alliances with many European theaters and more. This is also why the TSC invests in advertising in magazines and foreign magazines, reaching a very large audience; this awareness has a not insignificant impact on the territory, and makes the TSC visible as an important tourist attraction, from the centuries-old historical and artistic heritage (over 200 years of history), with an added value, which also determines an impact on the induced area. The TSC alw lways acts ts in in harmony with the main local interlo locutors, wit ith whom it it builds experie ience, cards, food and wine itin inerarie ies, packages that include the dis iscovery ry of of the natural heritage, of of the culinary ry tr traditio ions, of of jewels ls sti till little le known, in in or order to to en enhance as as much as as poss possible all all the asse asset.
