HOW CAN UNIVERSITIES RESPOND?

  • Martin Hamilton (11 April 2018)
  • Up to 800 million workers replaced by robots & AI by 2030.
  • Proposes a re-think of university education is needed to keep human employed or

should they even be concerned about robotic takeover?

  • COULD INSTITUTIONS REPLACE PEOPLE WITH AI?
  • There are benefits of using this technology for learning [Academic Programme]:-

– Improves retention – Enhance the student experience [gadgets, VR] – Make the organisation itself more productive.

  • However some comforting news is that Universities take long to change especially with

sudden course changes. New HEQSF – new courses to come.

  • Sameer Rawjee comes to the rescue here…founder of O School & former director and

founder of Life Design Lab in Google Dublin.

  • This free thinking individual believes that we need to educate well rounded individuals in

schools and universities to equip them for tomorrow’s jobs. Emulating Google’s free-thinking, teamwork approach to innovation, they have pulled together a diverse team that would look out of place in most boardrooms: A Buddhist monk from Oxford, UK, a martial artist from the Virgin Group, a psychologist from South Africa, a cell renewal expert from beauty company Weleda and a musician from the United Nations.

  • Nick Binedell –founding director of GIBS – talks about “how parents need to think of the

future of their child’s ongoing education.

  • Nick & Sameer agree on the “massive Unschooling movement” that will take place, that

ACTION LEARNING is on the rise, they also agree on the no change in our education system for over 100 years –structure being so hierarchical and bureaucratic in nature.

  • Sameer references to Stanford 2025 programme that registering students for missions

rather than majors.
