  3. Reading for pleasure is probably the  most important thing you can do to secure your progress across all subjects, and it can be really good fun! When you come to The Carlton  Academy in September, you will spend one English lesson per week in the Library, having a dedicated reading lesson. You will be tested at the start of the  year to see which books are the most suitable for your reading level, and will choose which books you’d like to read based on a colour- coded system. @TCA_LRC

  4.  When you finish a book, you will take a quiz on it on the computer.  There are certificates, achievement points and prizes available for passing the quizzes and reading lots of books.  We have several students in our current Year 7 who are in the ‘Millionaires Club’, meaning they have read over a million words so far this year!  Our year 7 students love their AR lessons! @TCA_LRC

  7.  You’ll be taught all about how Accelerated Reader works in your first Library lesson in September, but in the meantime, Ms Georgeson, our Librarian, has put together a list of books you might like to try out over the long summer holiday. Please take one on your way out for inspiration.  Who knows? You may come back ready to take a quiz or two!  Have a great summer and get reading, Year 6! @TCA_LRC

  8.  Essential and something we all do  Always have a book with you every day  Reading will be done in all lessons as part of learning and also specifically: A tutor time each week will be focused on silent 1. reading – Drop Everything and Read (Dear time) Every week one lesson will have the first 15 2. minutes when everything stops for reading – this is different lesson each week so be prepared Make ake su sure yo you u ha have ve a bo book ok at all time mes

  9.  Purchased prior to the start of term – see our website and leaflet in packs  Please do not leave it too late if at all possible to buy uniform  Uniform includes TCA specific trousers / skirt with logo only available from the supplier  Shoes must be pl plain in bl black ck leather or leather look only – not suede / canvas or trainer like and no logos

  10.  Arrive at school for 8:40  Come straight to the Theatre  Will have two hours in school before everyone else arrives with your tutor  Rest of tutor group arrives and have time together  Normal lessons for the rest of the day  Finish with assembly in Theatre  Finish at 3:05pm With your tutor you will: Timetable and tour of the school 1. Photograph and biometrics for catering 2. Get to know you activities 3. Early lunch for the first few days 4.
