Reading for pleasure is probably the most important thing you can do to secure your progress across all subjects, and it can be really good fun!
When you come to The Carlton Academy in September, you will spend one English lesson per week in the Library, having a dedicated reading lesson.
You will be tested at the start of the year to see which books are the most suitable for your reading level, and will choose which books you’d like to read based on a colour- coded system.
@TCA_LRC
When you finish a book, you
will take a quiz on it on the computer.
There are certificates,
achievement points and prizes available for passing the quizzes and reading lots of books.
We have several students in our
current Year 7 who are in the ‘Millionaires Club’, meaning they have read over a million words so far this year!
Our year 7 students love their
AR lessons!
@TCA_LRC
“The Accelerated Reader lessons are fun! It’s great how we compete against the other houses to read on the beanbags!” Bryn Lee “Accelerated Reader makes you really concentrate on what you’re reading.” Tom Bowyer “I love our Accelerated Reader lessons and I’m glad that we will still be doing them in Year 8.” Ciaran Ryan
@TCA_LRC
An acknowledgement from Jacqueline Wilson on Twitter when Charlie became our latest word millionaire – Charlie was over the moon!
@TCA_LRC You’ll be taught all about how
Accelerated Reader works in your first Library lesson in September, but in the meantime, Ms Georgeson, our Librarian, has put together a list of books you might like to try out over the long summer
- holiday. Please take one on
your way out for inspiration.
Who knows? You may come
back ready to take a quiz or two!
Have a great summer and get
