  3. WHAT IS ANTIFREEZE/COOLANT? Inhibitors + (4 -6%) Inhibitors Protect Metals From Rust And Corrosion Glycol -(50%) Glycol Provides Boil-Over And Freeze Point Protection Water - (50%) Water Transfers Heat

  4. TESTING COOLANT • 1) Color • 2) Clarity • 3) Odor • 4) Freeze Point • 5) Chemical Protection CHEMISTRY THAT DRIVES COMMERCE

  5. TESTING COOLANT • 1) Color – indicates technology or mixing – whatever the color of the coolant is (red, pink, yellow, green, gold), it should have a fluorescent color. It should not be brown.. • 2) Clarity – indicates oil, fuel, corrosion • 3) Odor – indicates high pH – ammonia state above 11.0 destroys soft metals – below 7 indicates acidic • 4) Freeze Point – indicates dilution -12 to -65 Fahrenheit acceptable 60/40 – 40/60 mix of glycol /water • 5) Chemical Protection – indicates adequate protection – dilution – use test strip – OAT use pass / fail. If it fails add converter/extender as per chart – ½ gallon to 15 gallon system. If Fully Formulated – uses NITRITE test strip & add SCA CHEMISTRY THAT DRIVES COMMERCE

  6. 6 Antifreeze / Glycol Testing (Freeze point) Test Strips DO NOT USE ! • Not accurate with Red Coolants • Small scale • Expire Hydrometers • Not very Refractometer (Analog) accurate • Very Accurate • Must be cleaned • Will Test EG / PG / Specific gravity after every use • Readings will be off on some newer coolants CHEMISTRY THAT DRIVES COMMERCE

  7. WHEN SHOULD I I TEST THE COOLANT? Every 20 – 25,000 miles Or Every 3 – 4 months Or Every 600 – 800 hours CHEMISTRY THAT DRIVES COMMERCE

HEAVY DUTY COOLANT TECHNOLOGIES Conventional Technology • ▪ Short Lived Inorganic Inhibitors: o Low-Silicate, Phosphate, Borate, Nitrate, Nitrite • Inhibitor Drop-out ▪ Requires the addition of SCAs to prevent wet Concerns sleeve liner cavitation (ie Penray, NalCool) Fully Formulated Technology • ▪ Inorganic Inhibitors: Short Lived o Low-Silicate, Borate, Nitrate, Nitrite • Fewer Drop-out o No Phosphates Concerns ▪ Supplemental Coolant Additive (SCA) Precharged for Heavy-Duty applications Hybrid Technology ▪ Inorganic & Organic Inhibitors (HOAT): • Longer Lived ▪ Organic acids combined with one or more conventional inhibitors (Silicate, Borate, Nitrate, and/or Nitrite) • Potential Drop-out ▪ Typically No Phosphates ▪ Supplemental Coolant Additive (SCA)Precharged for Heavy-Duty applications Extended Life Technology (ELC) • Long Lived ▪ Organic Inhibitors (OAT): • No Drop-out o No Silicates, Phosphates or Borates Concerns ▪ Requires NO addition of SCAs CHEMISTRY THAT DRIVES COMMERCE CHEMISTRY THAT DRIVES COMMERCE

  10. FULLY FORMULATED COOLANT/ANTIFREEZE Technology • Conventional Application • On Road/ Off Road Benefit s • Works in ALL heavy-duty diesel, gasoline and natural gas engine cooling systems . • Designed to last the life of the engine when maintained with a high quality SCA filter system. • Fully-formulated, requires no initial dose of SCAs FULLY FORMULATED • Optimum protection against freezing and boil over. • Incorporates nitrite to provide wet sleeve liner protection ANTIFREEZE & against cavitation. COOLANT • Provides corrosion protection of all cooling system metals and component • Low silicate, phosphate free formula reduces the risk of scale CHEMISTRY THAT DRIVES COMMERCE CHEMISTRY THAT DRIVES COMMERCE

  11. FULLY FORMULATED COOLANT/ANTIFREEZE Maintenance • SCAs must be checked and maintained SCA • Check Nitrite Level Every 25,000 Miles Or 500 Hours/3 Months • Maintain SCA Level Based On OEM Recommendations • Typically 1200 ppm • Can last the life of the engine when properly maintained with high quality SCAs and filters. 12. HYBRID BLUE COOLANT/ANTIFREEZE • Technology Hybrid Organic Acid Technology, 2-EHA Free On Road/ Off Road Application Benefits • Heavy duty, commercial/stationary engines operating on diesel, gasoline, natural gas, propane, LPG, biofuels or methane waste gas where the OEM specifies a HOAT fluid formulation based on nitrite, low silicate, phosphate-borate and OAT technology • Hybrid ESI coolant/antifreeze with service intervals at 150,000 miles / 4,000 hours • Fully-formulated, requires no initial dose of SCAs. Easily maintained with DCA4 liquid or chemical filter SCA system. • Delivers excellent liner pitting, corrosion, & erosion protection • HYBRID BLUE Proprietary inhibitor eliminates scale deposits that can significantly reduce heat transfer ANTIFREEZE & • Compatible with any antifreeze/coolant COOLANT CHEMISTRY THAT DRIVES COMMERCE CHEMISTRY THAT DRIVES COMMERCE

  15. IMPROVED COMPONENT LIFE – HEAT EXCHANGERS Improved Component Life SILICATES, PHOSPHATES OR BORATES CAN CAUSE ISSUES No Silicates to No Phosphates to No Borates which plate out on drop out and form can be aggressive surfaces scale to Aluminum CONVENTIONAL HD COOLANT EXTENDED LIFE COOLANT CHEMISTRY THAT DRIVES COMMERCE CHEMISTRY THAT DRIVES COMMERCE

  16. Flux Problems: Some aluminum radiators are contaminated on the inside with brazing flux. The flux residue can bind to the silicate in conventional coolant causing it to drop out and plug the system. Since the silicate was the primary protection for aluminum, the aluminum radiator is left unprotected against corrosion, which is accelerated by the flux. A flush and fill removes the flux and the system ready to last a life time. Factory fill with ELC eliminates the silicate issues since most ELC isn’t formulated with any. Unfortunately the flux is still present and may reduce the effectiveness or longevity of the coolant. . Nitrite has been shown to attack and corrode the aluminum in these high flow cooling systems. This is why some engine manufacturers are requiring the use of Nitrite free coolant. CHEMISTRY THAT DRIVES COMMERCE

  17. Why Nitrite Free: Some aluminum radiators are formed with “dimpled” tubes to improve heat dissipation and allow the use of smaller radiators. Nitrite has been shown to attack and corrode the aluminum in these high flow cooling systems. This is why some engine manufacturers are requiring the use of Nitrite free coolant. Unfortunately, Nitrite has been one of the best ways to protect wet sleeve liners against cavitation erosion. This is why some engine manufacturers are still recommending Nitrite containing ELC - (NOAT ) formulations. CHEMISTRY THAT DRIVES COMMERCE
