Address and Contact Information Update

➢ All students are required to ensure their mailing address and contact

information are up to date.

➢ Please log onto your SISC (Student Information Service Centre) to

confirm your address and contact information. If there are any changes in the future, you must notify Student Affairs (studentservices@dentistry.ubc.ca)

➢ Update your Dentistry Intranet profile (under Personal Settings) and

adjust your information on SISC accordingly. UBC and Faculty of Dentistry require original documents such as marriage certificates or legal name change documents to recognize a change of name.

Criminal Record Check

➢ As part of your program, you will be required to take part in Community

Service Learning (CSL). The facilities you will have the opportunity to visit range from long term care facilities to community centers and methadone clinics.

➢ In light of this, Vancouver Coastal Health and UBC Faculty of Dentistry require

all students entering the community to complete a standard criminal record check either through your local City Police or RCMP. When you file your application, you will need to do so in the city in which you reside at present.

slide-14
SLIDE 14

How to obtain Criminal Record Check

You will need to pay $28 for this check: you are not considered volunteers for the purpose of this service. We will receive a report of your clearance.

Some of you may not be able to use the online service and will need to complete in-person criminal records checks. You will need to provide us a copy: we will accept electronic copies if they are emailed directly from the police department, otherwise, please mail us the hard copy.

This is a new program for us, so please let us know if you have any issues with using the online platform.

Now you can obtain the CRC online. After this meeting we will send you the instructions after the meeting

Immunizations

➢ All students who begin Dental school require a review of their immunization

  • status. Many students will require boosters, additional tests and/or

immunizations – all of which takes time.

➢ Make an appointment with UBC Student Health Services as soon as possible,

beginning now.

➢ To schedule an appointment with SHS, call (604) 822-7011. ➢ Immunization Letter will be e-mailed to you. ➢ Take with you all your records and all pertinent laboratory reports, along with

the competed Immunization form.

UBC Alumni E-mail

Your UBC alumni email account is your official UBC email address and will be the account UBC and UBC Dentistry use to communicate with you once you have registered

All students must register for an account

You require to have a HOST email and you will not be able to have a HOST email until you are registered

Due to privacy laws and UBC Dentistry confidentiality requirements, all dentistry undergraduate and graduate students are required to respond/send emails through a designated UBC email

  • account. Students who select the auto-forward selection rather than host email will NOT have the

ability to reply/send through an UBC account as the account is forwarded to your personal email address and does not host an inbox.

Please ensure that you select HOST email when setting up your account

To set-up an alumni email account, go to https://id.ubc.ca/

You cannot apply for an alumni email account until you have registered in your classes

slide-18
SLIDE 18

List-serve email

➢ In order to communicate with your class, faculty, staff and students will use DHetp

2024 list serve: dhetp-2024@lists.ubc.ca

➢ By the start of the program the list-serve will only contain your UBC alumni e-mails,

and no personal e-mail accounts will be permitted

➢ Please be careful when replying to an e-mail sent through the list-serve ➢ Click on Reply only If you want everyone on the list-serve to receive your response ➢ If you would like to respond only to the person who sent an e-mail through the list-

serve, you need to make sure you copy their address and paste it in To field, or FW the email rather than reply

➢ A curbside pickup can be arranged from 9 am to 3 pm

➢ Once you have your Student ID Card, you will need to upload your I class#

to your Intranet profile

➢ The iClass number is located in the back of your Student ID card, in the

CPR Certificate

➢ Throughout your training you are required to maintain a Health

Care Provider level CPR (adult, child and infant) + AED

  • certification. CPR methods have greatly evolved over the past

decade and continue to go through annual revisions as research

  • progresses. For this reason, although your CPR card may say it is

valid for two or three years, it is essential for dental students to recertify annually, at the Health Care Provider (HCP) level.

➢ To ensure everyone is current and has been taught the most up to

date standards, it is strongly advised that students renew their CPR certification upon beginning dental school.
