Taiwan Experience Education Program (TEEP) & Cerritos College TEEP program In 2015, the Taiwanese Ministry of Education launched Taiwan Experience Education Program (TEEP), which provides students with teaching internships at Taiwan public schools and access to Taiwan universities. Students can gain valuable work experience in Taiwan and develop skills as global citizens. https://www.studyintaiwan.org/teep/ Cerritos College partnered with TEEP and adopted the program for its study abroad program since 2017. Currently, TEEP provides four internship options for the college. Cerritos College supports such program with administrative and financial support. http://www.cerritos.edu/academics/taiwan-experience.htm

2019 TEEP Student Ambassador Roy Shih

My identity has been shaped primarily by two countries: the United States and Taiwan. I was born and grew up in Los Angeles. My mother and father were born in Taiwan and immigrated to the US. My grandparents still live in Taiwan. I have been able to play a small role to bridge the cultures that shaped my background and creating connections which introduce individuals around my age to the culture. Meeting people who have different perspectives, backgrounds, and life experiences can be transformative because it often shapes you into a more open-minded individual and fosters mutual respect for different cultures. Likewise, it opens doors of

  • pportunities for cross-cultural sharing.

By leading a group from the West San Gabriel Boys and Girls Club on a tour of Taiwan in 2017, I saw how this experience changed how each participant views the world. It opens students eyes to their own

  • potential. This encouraged me to lead a second group, the Boys and Girls Club from Oakland in 2018.

I recently learned of the TEEP program which recruits American students to teach English to students in

  • Taiwan. I believe that the past experiences that I gained will allow me to connect more students to a new

culture and experience. I then applied for the role of student ambassador in the TEEP program which will now allow me to support the 48 students that will teach in Taiwan this coming summer. It is an honor to support the teaching of English and to share my cultural background with these students. It is my passion to be an ambassador for sharing cultures and experiences throughout the world.
