Please monitor your Western and LHSC email accounts Note: you can forward to UWO email to another account. Continue to check periodically so it doesn’t exceed storage capacity which would disable the account Important: Check your email daily
Pager:
We will contact you by pager when it’s urgent. Pagers must be on at all times and disabled when you’re unavailable. Please familiarize yourself with BEEP Important: You must answer your pages

Vacation and Leaves
Vacation 20 week days + 8 weekend days – any increment up to 7 days per block Away-from-call Requests 3 consecutive days per block Educational & Conference Leave 7 week days Exam Days 3 days – must be for actual exams Floater Day 1 day per year Stat Replacements as assigned – given after working on holiday Christmas/New Year’s 5 days - December 22 – 26 and December 28 - January 1 (Common Day December 27) – will open for requests in the fall Other Maternity, Paternity, Compassionate Post-Call First Day of Block Not a vacation but VERY IMPORTANT to let your service know you will be absent on the first day of a block
Vacation and Leaves
- Send your requests in as early as you can but at least by the beginning of the
previous block
- Vacation can be taken in any increment up to 7 days per block
- We ask that you take your vacation starting on a Tuesday – Friday (not on a
Saturday, Sunday or Monday)
- You can have a maximum of 14 days off during CTU (in addition to Windsor)
- It is helpful to provide additional details concerning your vacation and away
from call requests to help us in scheduling
- Approvals/Declines are automatically generated through the Domeducation
email but are actually approved or declined by the contacts shown in the Vacation Categories document
- Plan your leaves in advance
Away from Call Requests
1 request per block up to 3 days
- Away from Call Requests indicate a preference not to be scheduled.
They are not guaranteed and not approved until after the completion
- f the on-call schedule for that particular block.
- Vacation or other formal requests take priority over away from call
requests
- Limit of one Away from Call request per block (up to 3 days) – you
cannot use this feature to book every weekend off – you will be expected to work 2 weekends per block.
Call Schedule Highlights
- The Call Schedule is sent out 2 weeks prior to start of a block
- On many rotations, you will be scheduled to work 2 (two) weekends
- You can view your personalized call schedule on our website under Personal
Schedules
- There are some services that cross-cover CTU and Cardiology – Allergy,
Clinical Pharmacology, Dermatology, Endocrinology, Geriatrics, Hepatology, Medical Oncology, Research, Rheumatology, occasionally Infectious Diseases – check schedules carefully!
- Please check the schedule located on our website for the most up-to-date
information
- After the call schedule is sent, all changes must go through the Chief Medical
Resident (CTUs) or the appropriate individual. Contacts are in the Vacation Categories document
- You are required to find your own coverage for last minute/emergency absences
- Please refer to the
Protocol for Processing ad hoc CTU Call Schedule Conflicts
- If changes for that day are required and have been approved, please send to
domeducation@lhsc.on.ca by 3:15. If changes take place later, please contact the switchboard and ensure DOM knows about the changes to update their information by emailing domoncall@lhsc.on.ca
- Windsor CTU – All changes must go through the Education Assistant
Changes
…after the schedule has been released
Academic Half Day
- AHD will take place on Wednesday afternoons at 2 pm for IM1
residents
- Location may change weekly – please watch your email and check
- ne45 for updates
- Attendance is mandatory unless you have a reasonable excuse (e.g.
post-call, vacation, sick, etc.)
- One45 - Attendance must be tracked in One45. Weekly evaluations of
the presentation must also be completed
- AHD will be video-conferenced to community sites, including Windsor
