  3. ❖ School Bell Times ➢ 8:40 warning bell ▪ Students line up at outside classroom door ▪ Parents stay with children • Teacher opens door and greets children ▪ 8:45 ‘ instruction begins ’ bell ➢ 2:33 dismissal bell ▪ Students picked up at outside classroom door P a g e | 3 of 14

  5. ❖ Parent and Family Involvement ➢ Parents and family are your child’s first and most important teachers ➢ Read with your child every day ➢ Talk with your child about their day at school (“Which Centre did you go to today?” ) ➢ P.A.L.S. : Monthly meetings for EVERY child with a parent or grandparent (who is usually at home taking care of the child) P a g e | 5 of 14

  6. ➢ Family Volunteers: parents/grandparents/aunts/uncles ▪ field trips ▪ classroom help • preparation of materials • bulletin board displays of children’s artwork • cooking • crafts ▪ once every week or once per month ➢ visit school website for useful and interesting information ▪ harrysayers.abbyschools.ca P a g e | 6 of 14

  7. ❖ Snack and Lunch ➢ healthy snack and lunch EVERY day ▪ apple, orange, banana, cucumber, cheese and crackers, roti, cheese sandwich etc. ▪ one healthy food item will be for snack ▪ water in a refillable water bottle (print child’s first name) ▪ help your child learn about healthy food by talking with your child and having your child help pack their own lunch kit P a g e | 7 of 14

  8. ❖ Weekly Activities ➢ Music Class ➢ Physical Education ➢ Library ➢ Big Buddies Teachers will send a notice home in the next few weeks to let you know on which days these activities are scheduled. ❖ S.T.E.A.M. Lab Science, Technology, ➢ Engineering, Arts, Math Inquiry Based Learning ➢ P a g e | 8 of 14

  9. ❖ School Supplies supplies can all be purchased at ➢ stores such as Staples ▪ supply list is at the office ▪ we have example supplies here for you to see & take photos if desired we share supplies in Kindergarten ▪ ( no need to print name on supplies ) ❖ Backpack (big enough to hold lunch kit, library book and art) (print child’s first name on backpack) look in backpack with your ▪ child EVERY day and discuss contents P a g e | 9 of 14

  10. ❖ Kindergarten Clothing Clothes with which your child can ➢ dress themselves independently (for using the bathroom) (print child’s first name on clothes labels and on shoes, please) ▪ no tricky buttons, please ▪ no belts on pants (elastic waist preferred: easier) ▪ have child dress themselves at home (even if it takes a long time) Indoor shoes (Velcro, ➢ non-marking soles) ❖ Independence Using the bathroom ➢ Shoes and jacket on and off ➢ ▪ Book: By Myself P a g e | 10 of 14

  11. ❖ Birthdays ➢ in-school celebrations please talk to your child’s ▪ teacher before bringing in birthday treats ➢ invitations to birthday parties please phone your ▪ invitations rather than handing than out at school (to minimize hurt feelings) P a g e | 11 of 14

  12. ❖ Absence ➢ note to teacher a couple of days before absence OR ➢ phone school office before class (604-852-9665) OR ➢ report absence or late online (school website): harrysayers.abbyschools.ca ➢ always sign in and out at the office if dropping your child off late or picking up early for safety eg. in case of ▪ fire alarm P a g e | 12 of 14

  13. ❖ Classroom Visits: first Wednesday of school 45 minutes per child (with ➢ parent) please bring your child’s ➢ information form and school supplies (if you have them) ▪ if you pre-ordered from Staples, then teachers already have your child’s supplies at school as mentioned, supplies can all be ➢ purchased at stores such as Staples P a g e | 13 of 14

  14. Gradual Entry ❖ Thursday of first week ➢ until Tuesday of second week (see personalized calendar) Regular Kindergarten Hours ❖ 8:45 - 2:33 ➢ start second Wednesday of school (same times as the rest of the school) P a g e | 14 of 14
