REQUIRED COURSES: GRADUATE... ● English 30-1 or 30-2 ● Social Studies 30-1 or 30-2 ● Mathematics 20-1 or 20-2 or 20-3 ● Science 20 or 24 or Biology 20 or Chemistry 20 or Physics 20 ...with a high school ● Physical Education 10 ● Career and Life Management (CALM) diploma... EARN 10 CREDITS (2 courses), IN ANY COMBINATION, FROM: ● Career and Technology Studies (CTS) ● Fine arts ● Second languages ● Physical Education 20 and/or 30 ● Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP) courses ● Knowledge and Employability courses; and EARN 10 CREDITS (2 courses) IN ANY 30-LEVEL COURSE (IN ADDITION TO ENGLISH AND SOCIAL STUDIES), IN ANY COMBINATION, FROM: ● 30-level mathematics, science, fine arts, second languages, CTS, or physical education 100 credits required ● 30-level locally developed course (learn more about these course options through your high school) ● 30-level Work Experience ● 30-level Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP) ● 30-level Knowledge and Employability courses

Next year for Grade 10, you’ll choose between the following: - English 10-1 OR 10-2 - Social 10-1 OR 10-2 - Math 10C OR 10-3 - Science 10 OR 14 - Physical Education 10 - CALM 20 - CTS - Construction, Design Thinking for Innovation, Foods, Media, Design, and Communication Arts, Mechanics - Dual Credit - Art 10 - Instrumental Music 10 - Performing Arts 15 - Technical Theatre 10 - Drama 10 - Choir 15 - Guitar 15 - Learning Strategies 15 - English as a Second Language (Levels 2,3,4), Intro to Canadian Studies 15 - Work Experience 15 - Outdoor Learning Centre options* - = 40 credits minimum

Students hoping to go onto academic universities, colleges, or What’s the difference other post-secondary institutes between the -1 & -2 should aim to take the -1 streams in streams? all 4 cores ( Eng 30-1 is expected for all post-secondary universities). Students planning on going into the It’s all about your future goals and trades, attending vocational academic future…. schools, or diving right into the workplace, taking the -2 streams (in most cases) will prepare you for this.

  7. Yes! For example, if you enroll in English 10-2 and show an excelling Changing streams.... understanding and ability, you may then enroll in English 10-1 the next semester (or year) to then continue on in the -1 stream. So if you’re in a -2 stream...can you get into a -1 stream? Students do not typically go from a 10-2 stream to a 20-1 stream - except for extenuating circumstances & principal approval!

  8. To advance into the -1 stream from Grade 9, teachers will make recommendations based on your progress and attainment, generally using 70% as a benchmark guide. In Grade 11 & 12, it’s important to strive for 70% or higher in the academic courses (Chemistry 20, Math 20-1, etc…)

  10. English You will either enroll in ELA 10-1 or 10-2 depending on your Gr 9 LA mark (70%<) To graduate: English 30-1 or 30-2 Universities require English 30-1 Vocational schools …..BVC

  11. To go into: Math 10C - you will need a 70% or a teacher recommendation. To graduate, you need up to Math 20 (-1,-2,-3) To get into universities, this may look different depending on your interest of study. MATH For trades, other qualifications may be needed

  12. SCIENCES You will either go into Science 10 or 14 (based on a grade of 70%<) To graduate: Science 20 - level course To go onto university or trade schools....you may need some of the Science 30- courses Ex. for NAIT Ex. for Waterloo

  13. SOCIAL STUDIES You will either start in Social 10-1 or 10-2 depending on your Gr. 9 mark To graduate: Socials 30-1 or 30-2 For universities - you can have 30-1 OR 30-2

OPTIONS Instrumental Music Guitar - Ukulele Physical Education (PE 10 is mandatory) CALM 20 (mandatory) CTS: construction, digital media and design, design thinking for innovation, communication technology, foods, mechanics Learning Strategies* (there are admission requirements for this course)

  19. Dual-Credit Program - Business Communication This course requires you to fill out a college application and commitment to the course once enrolled. There is an option to do a practicum in Banff for an additional - Medical Terminology 1&2 credit! - Intro to Global Tourism - Intro to Management - Intro to Criminal Justice - Health Education: Personal Health and Wellness *worth 5 CTS credits and Offered in Grade 10, 11 & 12 3 college credits!

  20. In other news.. Grade 10’s and 11’s will be required to carry a full-course load for both semesters. Spares can only be approved by the principal under extenuating circumstances.

  22. Alignment with CCHS Since BCHS and CCHS have similar schedules, it is possible for students to travel to CCHS to take the following courses: - Biology 20 AP - French 20 AP - Mechanics & Welding - Agriculture - Media Technology - Performing Arts - Commercial Foods

  23. Summer School At the end of grade 9 the purpose of the CRPS summer school is for ELL learners to improve English abilities through our “Introduction to Canadian Social Studies 15” CRPS does not allow students to take a grade 10 class as an initial offering. Students must maintain a full timetable at Banff Community High School.

  24. What’s Next? Paper copies for course selection will be due this Thursday 25th April. Online course selection will commence the first week of May. Any final course selection change deadline is Friday Sept 13th.
